OnePlus 7 breaks new ground: This decision won't please buyers

Turnaround at OnePlus: For the first time, the Chinese manufacturer is to offer a new smartphone flagship in three variants. The new OnePlus 7 Pro will be the spearhead and offer the best equipment. However, a design feature of the Pro variant is likely to cause resentment among many diehard OnePlus fans.

Hardly any other design feature divides the smartphone world as much as rounded display margins. Some love the elegant look of the edge displays, others see only unnecessary frills in the bulges, which at worst even worsens the smartphone's handling and resilience. So far, edge display opponents at OnePlus had found a haven – until now.

OnePlus 7 Pro: Curved Display with rounded edges

The new OnePlus 7 Pro is to receive a 6.64 inch "curved display" measuring diagonal, according to mobile phone insider Steve Hemmerstoffer on Twitter. However, Hemmerstoffer did not reveal how striking the display margins are rounded. In recent years, a certain bandwidth has also been established for edge displays. Current Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy S10 have only a minimal bulge on the sides, while the rounding is more apparent on phones such as the Huawei P30 Pro or Nokia 8 Scirocco. In the case of the OnePlus 7 in the standard version, on the other hand, a flat 6.4-inch display should be included.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: Differences in cameras

Apart from the display, there are said to be other differences between the regular OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro. While the standard model has a "notch" in the form of a water drop as well as a dual camera on board, the Pro variant is said to have a retractable pop-up camera that makes a screen cut redundant. The Pro variant will, by all accounts, have a triple camera with a 48 MP main lens, a Telefoto module and an ultra-angle lens. The OnePlus 7, on the other hand, has to be content with a dual camera, the main lens of which also dissolves with 48 MP. Both mobile phones, however, probably have to do without wireless charging.
