OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: Focus on next-generation networks

After announcing its commitment to the 5G smartphone race at the end of 2018 and indicating its willingness to offer one quickly, the manufacturer OnePlus showed at MWC 2019 in Barcelona in February the ability to combine 5G and cloud gaming from a prototype on the stand of its partner Qualcomm.
Unfortunately, the latter was carefully embedded, showing only one screen. It is with the official presentation of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro series that the first 5G smartphone is unveiled and it will be...the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G!
In the end, it will not be a separate series but a newly announced variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro. Externally, it is identical to the 4G model and has the same features (in 8GB RAM / 256GB storage configuration) but it is actually a small feat because the entrails are very different.
The smartphone uses the combination of the SoC Snapdragon 855 and the 5G X50 modem (as we reported at the Snapdragon TechSummit in Hawaii last December) but packaging techniques had to be used to prevent it from being thicker than the 4G version.
Specific 5G antennas (for millimetre band reception, or mmWave, in particular) had to be integrated in addition while the cooling area of the hardware platform had to be extended by 50%.
The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is therefore the first 5G smartphone of the brand that will soon be available from the British operator EE at the launch of its commercial 5G network, but also from the Finnish operator Elisa, where it will be the very first 5G smartphone in the new offer.
