OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: a first comparison

By  Paris Ba 2019-05-11 2098 0

Our first OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro comparison shows you the most important differences between the new top models. The main differences are in the cameras and the display.

Although it is still a few days until OnePlus will present the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro on 14 May 2019, there is already sufficient information on the two new top models from the Chinese manufacturer. It is therefore worth making an initial comparison between the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

Please note: The information for this OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro comparison is based on the previously known technical data. As these are rumours only, they may differ from the actual launch dates.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: The Design

In the meantime we have seen some pictures of the OnePlus 7, as well as the OnePlus 7 Pro. The latest rumours have shown that the OnePlus 7, purely in terms of appearance, is still quite similar to the OnePlus 6T. The OnePlus 7 will also have a waterdrop notch and a flat display. A fingerprint scanner is also not visible, which suggests that it is integrated into the display again. The OnePlus 7 is probably again largely made of glass. Metallic components, however, are said to be present in the frame.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: The Design

At the same time, the OnePlus 7 Pro has a slightly different look. The display appears in curved design. This means that the edges are slightly rounded, similar to the edge edges of the Galaxy S10. This means that the OnePlus 7 Pro will be handled very differently from the normal version. There is also another difference to be discovered in the upper part of the display. With the OnePlus 7 Pro there is no notch visible and the edges also leave no room for a front camera. Here, OnePlus obviously relies on a pop-up camera that moves out of the housing as soon as it is needed. As far as materials are concerned, the Pro version will probably also consist mainly of glass with isolated metal elements.

The 6.64 inch Pro model will be slightly larger than the 6.4 inch OnePlus 7. Also the optics will differ. A curved display is opposite a flat display. In addition, the OnePlus 7 has a waterdrop notch, whereas the Pro model has no notch at all. Max alias  Samsung News gives first information about the resolution on Twitter. While the OnePlus 7 is supposed to have a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels, the slightly larger OnePlus 7 Pro display has a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels. Thus OnePlus of the Pro variant would be the first model to offer a display that resolves better than Full HD.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: Comparison of technical data

At the technical level, the two new OnePlus models are very similar, at least in terms of the data already available and considered set. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa Core processor will therefore provide sufficient peak performance in both models. This is supported by the Pro model of 6 or 10/12 gigabyte (GB) RAM. With the normal model, 6 or 8 GB RAM were last discussed. The internal memory should be 128 or 256 GB, whether it will be expandable is still uncertain. For the Pro model, however, Max of  Samsung News  teases the faster memory module UFS 3.0.

Since several leaks predict memory variants of 128 and 256 GB for both the normal and the Pro model, there should probably only be a difference with regard to the main memory. For the OnePlus 7 Pro, a battery capacity of 4,000 mAh including a 30-watt charger is currently in circulation. Less large and less fast can be loaded obviously the OnePlus 7. 3,700 mAh and 20 Watt stand here in the area.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro: The Camera Comparison

Beside the information about the display told us some more details. These refer to the cameras of the two top models. These probably represent the biggest difference between the two models. While the Pro model will be the first OnePlus smartphone to have three camera lenses (48 + 16 + 8 MP), the OnePlus 7 has a classic dual camera. Its main camera also comes with 48 MP. The second lens will probably be a telephoto lens. Accordingly, the wide-angle lens is only used in the Pro model.

For further information please contact Max. According to his latest Twitter, the 48 MP camera will feature an optical image stabilizer. Also the aperture values are now known thanks to Max: The main lens has an aperture of f/1.6, while the telephoto and wide-angle objects have an aperture of /f/2.4 and f/2.2.

Pop-up camera only with OnePlus 7 Pro

But even with the front camera, differences can already be noted. It is still unclear with how many MP the Selfie camera of the OnePlus 7 will trigger. What is certain, however, is that this is accommodated on the front camera in the Waterdrop Notch. This is not the case with the Pro model. Similar to the Vivo Nex or OPPO Find X, the front camera is integrated into the housing. The so-called pop-up camera only moves out of the housing when it is actually needed by the user. It has 16 MP and an f/2.0 aperture.

OnePlus 7 vs. OnePlus 7 Pro in Comparison: A First Conclusion

Currently, it seems that the really big and noticeable differences between the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro are in the display and camera equipment. A wide-angle lens will probably only be available on the Pro model. And if OnePlus is a good and reliable pop-up camera, the OnePlus 7 Pro is also a step ahead when it comes to security and privacy. The larger main memory of the OnePlus 7 Pro, on the other hand, is unlikely to really make itself felt by many users in their everyday lives. Rather, the display size (6.4 vs. 6.64 inches), the display shape (flat vs. curved design) and the display resolution (full HD vs. quad HD) could play a role in the purchase decision in this case.
