Outer Wilds is the third game of the independent studio Mobius Digital, which has released exploratory Beacon 38 and RPG with logical elements entitled Terra Chroma on mobile devices. This time the developers are offering the players a sandbox adventure.
The plot
Released on the PC, XONE and PS4 platform, Outer Wilds is a first-person adventure in which players take on the role of recruiter for the new space program Outer Wilds Ventures. Our task is to study the constantly changing solar system, functioning in the time loop. The production hides many puzzles. The most important thing is: can the endless time loop be stopped? In addition, there are a number of smaller threads, such as mysterious ruins on one of the moons.
Mechanics
The Outer Wilds gameplay focuses on exploration. We travel between planets on board a small spacecraft, which we also use to fly on their surface. After landing, you can get off the ship and start exploring on foot. Each globe hides different secrets and attractions. On one of them we can find e.g. an underground city or alien records, and the surface of the other one will start to disintegrate under our feet. Besides, planets and moons change with time, so returning to previously visited places usually brings many surprises. It may turn out, for example, that the mentioned city has been absorbed by the sand. During exploration, various gadgets are useful for tracking signals. We select them in the starting point, where we also replenish the oxygen and relax by the fire.
Technical issues
Outer Wilds is a three-dimensional production with action observed from the perspective of FPP. The game offers an interesting stylistics and is quite diverse - individual planets differ, among others, in the topography of the terrain, vegetation (or lack thereof).
