Playstation 5 & Xbox Scarlett: Activision wants to release next-gen game at 2020

In a job description of Activision a developer for a Triple-A game for the next generation is sought. The video game will be released next year. Does this confirm the release of the Playstation 5 and the Xbox-Scarlett consoles?

Activision is currently looking for a "Senior Tools Engineer". He should enrich the "Core Engine Team". In other words, we are looking for a software developer who will take care of the engine development. The Call-of-Duty-Publisher looks for the reinforcement, in order to publish in the coming year a Next-Generation-Triple-A-Titel . As CoD titles are usually released in October or November, it looks as if Microsoft's Xbox-Scarlett consoles and/or Sony's Playstation 5 could be released in autumn 2020.

Meanwhile Activision has reacted and - as you can read here - in the job advertisement the mention of a "Next-Generation-Triple-A-Title" and the year 2020 removed again. We are now only talking about the development of new "world editor workflows to deliver next-generation content and effects".

Officially confirmed facts and figures about Playstation 5:

New CPU and GPU based on AMD. The exact Ryzen generation used is still unclear. Probably a Zen 2 + Navi. Inside is a broadband SSD, which should be faster than current PC-SSDs. Probably the main memory is connected via PCI-Express 4.0.

There will continue to be a Blu-Ray drive.

The PS5 is fit for raytracing and 3D audio.

Also in 8K contents should be able to be represented.

There will be a backwards compatibility of the PS5. So Playstation 4 games will also run on the successor of the Playstation 5.

Games from earlier generations like the PS2 or PS3 will be offered via the streaming service "Playstation Now" and can also be played on the newer iterations.

In an interview with CNET, Jum Ryan - CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment - took a more detailed look. Every version of the Playstation 5 comes with an SSD. Games in 4K resolution can be output with up to 120 Hz, as long as the high refresh rate is also supported by the monitor. For backward compatibility, it will also be possible to transfer the game scores. The goal is to make the switch from Playstation 4 to 5 as easy as possible. If you don't want to or can't change yet, you will have the possibility to use so-called "Cross-Gen-Play". Thus PS4 players can compete against the gamblers on the newer Playstation 5. The streaming service "Playstation Now" is to be expanded. Only recently it was announced that Sony hosts the Playstation streaming service on Microsoft servers.
