With the Snapdragon 8cx, however, performance problems are to be solved. In the first videos Qualcomm showed the extraordinarily impressive performance of the new SoC, which is also absolutely impressive in comparison with an Intel Core i5-8250U. The Qualcomm chip in the Lenovo Project Limitless was able to outperform the Dell XPS 13 in various tasks.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7cx for Cheaper Always Connected PCs
According to new reports, Qualcomm is planning some new SoCs for Windows 10 ARM, which will bring down the price of Always Connected PCs. Qualcomm manager Don McGuire announced during a podcast that they wanted to make more processors available below the Snapdragon 8cx.
There was no talk of concrete models, but a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7cx is under discussion. This should cover the lower to middle price segment. In concrete terms, this means price ranges between 300 and 800 US dollars. According to Qualcomm, this is the only way to increase the total number of devices purchased by customers.
The devices operated by Qualcomm Snapdragon 7cx should therefore cover lower price ranges. The plan, however, is not just to make Windows 10 ARM devices with them. Device manufacturers will therefore choose whether they want to offer Windows 10 ARM or Google Chrome OS on the devices. For Microsoft's operating system, which also supports traditional desktop programs, Windows 10 ARM devices are an excellent way to compete with Google Chrome OS. Meanwhile, the company is already talking about a modern operating system of the future that will offer faster updates and easier operation.
Snapdragon 7cx to attract developers
With the Snadpragon 7cx, Qualcomm will aim to reach a wider audience. After all, this is necessary to convince developers of the new platform.
Google, for example, has reduced the size of the Chrome team, which is to advance the development of an ARM64 version of the browser. However, this could also be a result of the fact that Microsoft is now also working on Chromium. It is undoubtedly a priority for Microsoft to bring the new Edge browser to Windows 10 ARM.
