Redmi K20: Is Xiaomi Preparing a Competitor for OnePlus 7 ?

By  Zim Watson 2019-05-17 210 0

Xiaomi's Redmi brand is clearly preparing to launch a new smartphone equipped with a Snapdragon 855 SoC that could compete with the OnePlus 7.

OnePlus just introduced the OnePlus 7 as well as the OnePlus 7 Pro and the competition was quick to react. As spotted by our fellow Android Authority, manufacturer Xiaomi even benefits from the buzz created by the launch of these two models to tease a new smartphone of its brand Redmi.

Competitor

As a reminder, Xiaomi recently decided to make Redmi a sub-brand (a bit like Honor at Huawei). But while Redmi is known for its affordable or mid-range smartphones, it seems to be preparing a high-end smartphone that could rival the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Redmi K20 :  the high-end killer 2.0.?

After the presentation of OnePlus, Manu Kumar Jain, the head of Xiaomi in India, congratulated him for the launch of his new "flagship". However, it also indicates that the "flagship killer 2.0" is coming soon.

Congratulations @OnePlus team!

The poster that accompanies the tweet of the head of Xiaomi seems to be teasing a mobile that will be called Redmi K20 and has already been the subject of some rumors.

The number 855 on the "K" of the image could be a reference to the chip Snapdragon 855, a chip designed for high-end smartphones.

Otherwise, according to Android Authority, the Redmi K20 could have a 48-megapixel camera. A recent publication of the Twitter account of Redmi in India suggests that the brand could release new models with this sensor (found on the Redmi Note 7 ).

Finally, other sources would indicate that the Redmi K20 could also have a retractable front camera, which would allow the device to have a screen that is both borderless and without notch.
