No wonder Redmi Note 7 Pro went out of stock in seconds! Compared with its predecessor, Redmi Note 7 whose main camera is considered a defect, Redmi Note 7 Pro uses the state-of-the-art smartphone camera sensor, Sony IMX586 instead of Samsung S5KGM1. More surprisingly, it is priced nearly 50% lower than Xiaomi 9, and Honor View 20 which use the same camera sensor. As a result, the latest smartphone is the most sought-after.

Redmi Note 7 Pro benefits from Sony IMX586 CMOS sensor with 48MP, f/1.8 aperture. Each of the pixels is only 0.8 micron in size, stacked onto the 1/2 inch unit. The sensor allows 8K video capture in good light, 4K true HDR, or just switch to 4K, interpolated 8K in poor light.


Different from Samsung S5KGM1, the 48MP of Note 7 Pro is not achieved through interpolation  but the direct output from the hardware, and the latest camera sensor also features HDR for vivid colors in all cases. Although users can barely detect the difference in image processing speed, Samsung S5KGM1 needs to be backed by algorithms and it takes a longer time to produce 48MP photos. However, IMX586 costs more, but it is more efficient than Samsung S5KGM1. Thus, you won't be disappointed at the camera of Note 7 Pro.

What are the advantages?

Such a big sensor size and high resolution are rarities. As for those who know the imaging well, the bigger the size of the sensor, the less noise will be in the night mode; the higher the resolution, the more details can be recorded. Simply put, smartphones using Sony IMX586 are more competitive than over 99.7% on the market, with sensor size only second to IMX600 used in Huawei P20 Pro.


The main camera supports 4-in-1 large pixel (1.6 microns) with "Quad Bayer'' filter to reduce noise by rearranging 4 adjacent pixels. By doing so, the wide dynamic range is four times as wide as traditional CMOS sensors, avoiding over-exposure in the strong light and under-exposure in low light. In addition to the handheld super night mode and 19.5:9 full-screen shot, Redmi Note 7 Pro is a big threat to Huawei P20 Pro, the king of the night shot.

The photo at the left presents much clearer woolen yarns and brighter colors, whereas, obviously, the right one is fuzzier and darker.

Similarly, after zooming multiple times, clearer details of the basket and the cord are in the left photo, as well as better lighting.


However, it's too early to make a decision. Generally, please notice that Redmi was playing the role of judge in the launch event, these photos might not show true objectivity. Give one more minute to yourself, and look at the photos we've got.
