Now, let’s get into more detaisl about the phones’ main features.
Redmi Y3 vs. Redmi Note 7 vs. Redmi Note 7 Pro: design
At the very first glance, the three phones look practically identical. You get similar-sized displays that take most of the front panel and a tiny waterdrop notch employed for a full screen experience. In numbers, it looks like this:
● Redmi Y3: 81.5% screen-to-body ratio
● Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro: 81.4% screen-to-body ratio
As you can see, there is minimal difference between the three devices on the front.
With that, you will probably get the most "premium" feel with the Redmi Note 7 Pro. This is Xiaomi’s first phone released in India to feature a glass design complemented by 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides of the display. Plus, you get the trendy gradient Aurora color set.
On the back, all the three devices feature vertical dual cam setups and fingerprint sensors. As for color options, here’s where we stand:
● Redmi Y3 is available in Elegant Blue, Bold Red and Prime Black.
● Redmi Note 7 comes in Oxyn Black, Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue.
● Redmi Note 7 Pro was launched in Neptune Blue, Nebula Red and Classic Space Black.
Redmi Y3 vs. Redmi Note 7 vs. Redmi Note 7 Pro: power, storage and battery
Here’s where we spot the first major differences.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with the most powerful CPU onboard among the three devices: the Snapdragon 675. The processor employs six Kryo 460 Silver high-efficiency cores operating at 1.8 GHz in combination with two high-performance Kryo 460 speeding up to at 2GHz. There is also an X12 LTE modem onboard for efficient connectivity and Adreno 612 GPU for gaming.
You will get the option of pairing that wit either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
The Redmi Note 7 runs on the Snapdragon 660 (14nm FinFET, up to 2.2GHz turbo speed; eight Kryo 260 cores) and comes with the older Adreno 512 GPU. There is a choice of 3GB, 4GB or 6GB of RAM with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
The Redmi Y3 uses the Snapdragon 632 (14nm FinFET, up to 1.8GHz speed; eight octa-core, Kryo 250 cores: four Kryo Gold cores + four Kryo Silver cores) and relies on the Adreno 506 GPU for gaming. RAM options include 3GB and 4GB and, just like with the Redmi Note 7, you can get 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage.
On the battery side, all the three phones come with 4000mAh onboard. Out of the three phones, the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the one supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.
Redmi Y3 vs. Redmi Note 7 vs. Redmi Note 7 Pro: camera game
Even with a quick look at the specs will tell you that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the leader of the three when it comes to cameras. You get a 48MP primary sensor (f/1.79, 1/2", 0.8µm, PDAF) paired with a 5MP secondary sensor (f/2.4) for depth and a better blur effect. The phone features the Sony IMX586 sensor is capable of recording 4K video at 30fps. There is electronic image and video stabilization, AI Portrait Mode, background blurring, AI Dynamic bokeh, AI Studio lighting, scene detection, etc. On the front, however, you get the rather standard 13MP with HDR, smart beautification and more.
The Redmi Y3 offers an interesting alternative — the phone is marketed primarily as a selfie phone coming with a 32MP front shooter featuring 0.8μm large pixels and an f/2.25 aperture. The front cam comes with electronic image stabilization, HDR, auto adjust color temperature, facial recognition and more. On the back, the phone is much less interesting coming with the dual 12MP+2MP camera (the same setup as on the Redmi Note 7) with 1.25μm large pixels, auto-focus and an f/2.2 aperture lens. There is AI scene detection, Portrait Mode, Panorama Mode, etc.
The Redmi Note 7, on the other hand, does not really stand out when it comes photography. There is a dual 12MP+2MP setup on the back and a 13MP selfie shooter on the front. The rear camera is equipped with 1.25μm large pixels, auto-focus and an f/2.2 aperture lens.
Redmi Y3 vs. Redmi Note 7 vs. Redmi Note 7 Pro: the verdict
The Redmi Y3, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro are the phones that look very similar but come with their own very distinct features.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro is the strongest device overall based on processing power, RAM, cameras and charging. It is also the best camera phone out of the three. With that, the phone comes with a very modest price tag of about $200 (for the base version). You can get the Redmi Note 7 for about $50 less — but you will be giving up the 48MP rear sensor and a more powerful processor.
The Redmi Y3 has almost the same starting price as the Redmi Note 7 — about $140. For it, the phone offers a slightly slower processor but a better 32MP front camera. It is, thus, a great option if you are actually on the market for an inexpensive selfie phone (if that’s a thing).
