RoboMaster S1: DJI’s tank drone for teaching code

This radio-controlled and sensor-lined educational toy (31 in total) will be at the heart of a platform aimed at engaging young - and not-so-young - people in programming. It will thus be possible to have fun with this robot by driving it with the help of a smartphone or a tablet (or even a dedicated controller which will be marketed in a second time), but also to learn in a playful way about computer code by programming certain actions in Python or Scratch 3.0 (enough to surprise your opponents in the heat of the action).
Able to move 360° (its wheels even allowing it to move laterally) and to map its environment, the RoboMaster S1 incorporates some of the technologies developed by DJI for its fleet of drones. This allows him to react to some extent to the gestures made in front of his camera and to the orders given to him by his voice. It is also capable of tracking a predefined object and even firing small projectiles. Enough to imagine many games and organize clashes between several copies of the RoboMaster S1.
Over the years, DJI has also perfected the photo/video sensors used by its drones. This experience will also benefit this robot, which integrates a sensor with a 120° field of view and a maximum aperture of f/2.4.
Known for its excellent drones, DJI has been organizing the RoboMasters competition in China for several years now, in which computer science students compete in an arena with small robots. This experience has given rise to the RoboMaster S1, the robot-tank that DJI is about to market in Asia, but also in North America and Europe.
