Roborock T6 vs. Roborock S5: smarter mapping, efficient noise reduction design and brand new sweeping experience

A few days back, Xiaomi launched their new smart robotic vacuum cleaner called the Roborock Sweep T6. The vacuum cleaner was launched on a Chinese crowdfunding platform and is now available for pre-order at $417. The new smart vacuum Roborock T6 features a whole array of upgrades like improved navigation, advanced noise reduction, voice control, etc. Plus, inside, the vacuum comes with top branded components like the Allwinner R16 processor, a Texas Instruments signal processor, a microprocessor by STMicroelectronics and a DuPont Zytel brush. But how much better is it in use compared to the previous model — the Roborock S5? Let’s find out.

Roborock T6 vs. Roborock S5: improved award-winning design

The Roborock T6 and the Robotock S5 look very similar — but there are a few notable improvements on the T6. First, the new vacuum comes with a matte finish compared to the glossy finish on the S5. This is a better choice for everyday aesthetics as there will be fewer smudges and fingerprint marks on the vacuum's surface.

Another difference is in the control buttons. Both devices have three buttons on the top: power, charging and spot cleaning. But, in the case of the Roborock S5, the buttons are physical; but the Roborock S6 comes with touch buttons.

The improvements have also been made in the charging dock: you can now hide the charging cable inside a special compartment allowing for less clutter and giving the device a more minimalistic appearance.

Both smart vacuums have the same dimensions measuring 13.8 x 13.7 x 3.8 inches and both devices weigh about 3.6kg.

An interesting thing to note is that the Roborock T6 has been awarded with the the iF Design Award.

Roborock T6 vs. Roborock S5: what are the main differences?

There are several key upgrades featured on the new Roborock T6, apart from the new design elements. They include advanced mapping technology, a new water tank, an upgraded cleaning brush, lower noise level, Xiaomi AI Speaker support, etc.

Upgraded mapping technology

The Roborock T6 comes with the new Rock Navigation path plan that is supposed to bring notable improvements to the system. With it, the vacuum is capable of creating better maps and allows for more customized cleaning operations. According to the company, the new model's cleaning efficiency has been improved by 20%.

The new robot can recognize rooms, and you will be able to assign it to clean specific rooms and set times for the cleaning sessions.

Just like the S5, the T6 supports features like virtual boundaries as well as zone cleaning.

Because of smarter mapping, the T6 is more suitable for homes with complex designs and multi-story apartments or houses.

New water tank, mopping mode + disposable wipes

A new feature on the T6 is that it can mop and sweep simultaneously. The water tank on the T6 is also different: it features two levels of water dripping. One is intended for daily usage and uses less water so as not to leave marks on the floor. The second one is designed for more serious stains: more water will be released for a more intense cleaning session.

The new robot comes with a microfiber cloth for mopping, just like the S5. But there are ten disposable wipes that come with the new vacuum cleaner, which is not the case with the S5.

New DuPontTM Zytel cleaning brush

Another improvement on the T6 is the new cleaning brush made with DuPontTM Zytel material.

The brush features both brittle and rubber elements, which makes it a more efficient cleaning tool for a variety of surfaces.

New motor with a lower noise level

While both vacuum cleaners come with the same suction power, the T6 has received a number of upgrades when it comes to noise reduction. Modified air flow, optimized motor vibration and better insulation have all resulted in a quieter working process.

Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker support

In addition to app control (via the Mi Home App), the Roborock T6 can also be controlled by voice and supports the Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker. There is no confirmed data as to whether the robot cleaner will also support Alexa or Google Home.

The Roborock S5, on the other hand, does support Alexa-enabled devices and Google Home.

Roborock T6 vs. Roborock S5: what has remained the same?

While there are several notable improvements in the T6, it does have a lot in common with the previous model as well.

Both vacuum cleaners use an LDS sensor hidden inside the mini "tower" atop the vacuums to efficiently scan their surroundings and map out the area for cleaning. This feature also makes sure that robot do not clean the same area twice.

Both robots are equipped with a number of sensors (14 sensors for the T6 and 13 sensors for the S5), which ensure that the robots do not bump into furniture and efficiently navigate around corners, staircases, etc.

You can use the Mi Home App to control the Roborock T6 as well as the Roborock S5. Via the app, you will be able to select cleaning modes, set specific times for the cleaning sessions, turn the vacuums on and off, etc.

With both robots, you can also set digital boundaries if you don't want certain areas of your home cleaned and activate zone cleaning: simply draw a rectangle around the area you want cleaned on the map (via the app).

Thanks to the built-in sensors, you can track the robots' movements in real time and you can also control the T6 and the S5 manually: just like you would a radio car.

Both, the Roborock T6 and the Roborock S5 are known as some of the most powerful smart robots on the market offering up to 2,000 Pa of suction power. The robots are capable of climbing surfaces of up to 20mm in height and feature carpet recognition providing a deeper cleaning for carpeted surfaces automatically.

Finally, there are no changes when it comes to the battery capacity and charging process. You get the same 5,200 mAh battery on each vacuum cleaner, which is enough for cleaning a 250 square meter surface or 150 minutes of cleaning time.

When the vacuums run low on battery power, they will automatically return to the charging dock and stay there until they have recharged to 80%. After that, the robots will resume the cleaning where they left off.

Roborock T6 vs. Roborock S5: Should you upgrade to the new Roborock T6?

As we have mentioned earlier, the Roborock T6 would be the perfect cleaning solution for a home with a complex design thanks to its improved mapping and navigation.

It is also less noisy compared to the Roborock S5. Mind, however, that it is not exactly quiet — which is understandable for its 2,000 Pa suction power.

There are also upgrades to the design: a minimalistic charging dock, matte finish and touch controls.

Surprisingly, with all the upgrades, the Roborock T6 is currently less expensive than the Roborock S5, available for around $417 on a Chinese crowdfunding platform. The Roborock S5, on the other hand, is priced at above $550.
