Sony officially confirms PSVR 2 will not launch at the same time as PS5

At a recent conference with foreign media, Sony said it had "no reason" to launch a new PSVR 2 product alongside the launch of the new game console.
Dominic Mallinson, director of global research and development at Sony PlayStation, said he did not want players to face "shocks" from multiple different hardware at the same time, and should leave more market attention to the PS5 rather than put the cart before the horse.
So far, Sony has sold 4.2 million PSVR, but given that Sony has sold nearly 100 million PS4 in total at the same time, Sony has realised there is a long way to go before virtual reality devices become exactly the accessories considered by mainstream players.
In an interview, Marinson said: "From the consumer's point of view, being bombarded by many new products in turn, and then feeling that you have to buy this and that, it's a problem, and it's not the message we want to convey. In some ways, it's a good thing to leave consumers breathing space.
"The reality is that we get less profit from VR games, and as a developer, you can say,'OK, I can make money. But it's not easy.'So we're not too enthusiastic.
"This does not mean that PSVR headgear will be eliminated in the future," Mallinson said. We want it to be lighter, easier to wear, use fewer cables and be more comfortable.
Such progress, however, could lead to soaring prices far beyond the $200 range commonly seen in cash PSVRs.
Finally, Mallinson added: "Wireless VR devices face the problem of high cost. If you don't care about cables, the wired version is much cheaper than the wireless version. But at the same time, wireless networks will make players more free.
