Sony PS5 ultra high-speed SSD: a key role in Next Gen console

When a comparison of charging times between Playstation 4 and the upcoming Playstation 5 appeared last month, the sensation was great: A charging screen in Spiderman, which took a full 15 seconds on the PS4, disappeared on the other system after just one second.

Sony itself, however, has kept a low profile with details so far, leaving room for leaks: According to them, only an SSD-HDD hybrid solution would be used, which could probably only supply the loading times shown with difficulty. But in the 162nd issue of the official Playstation magazine, a short statement by a Sony spokesman now makes you hear.

"An ultra-high-speed SSD is the key to our new generation. Our vision is that loading screens will be a thing of the past to give developers the opportunity to create new and unique gameplay experiences".

Although no specifics can be inferred from this statement, either. However, Sony seems to be serious about the promise of really fast mass storage; a willingness to compromise between low cost and speed is certainly not something you can read in it. That an SSD-HDD hybrid will be found in the new console becomes more and more unlikely.

Sony had already announced at the official announcement that it wanted to install the fastest SSD ever. The PS5 will also meet the next-generation standards with a Ryzen 3 CPU, navigation GPU and raytracing.
