Sony WF-SP800N vs WF-1000XM3: ANC & Sound Quality
In terms of sound quality, there is little difference between Sony WF-SP800N and WF-1000XM3. Benefit from its flagship QN1e noise-canceling processor, with dual microphones on each earbud.
Meanwhile, the WF-1000XM3 has Sony's DSEE HX audio processing, while the Sony WF-SP800N get Sony Extra Bass instead.
Therefore, their sound quality is first-class in the current mainstream ANC TWS headphones, and the effect is far better than that of Apple AirPods Pro.
Sony WF-SP800N vs WF-1000XM3: Appearance Design
In terms of design, although both Sony WF-SP800N and WF-1000XM3 adopt the classic ear-in design of Sony, this design is very small and lightweight and very comfortable to wear. But a small ear hook has been added to the Sony WF-SP800N earbuds. This makes the WF-SP800N more stable to wear, even if you are in exercise.
In addition, the shape of the Sony WF-SP800N charging box and the WF-1000XM3 charging box has also changed, and the 75x48x20mm size of the Sony WF-SP800N charging box is relatively more compact and easy to carry.
Sony WF-SP800N vs WF-1000XM3: Battery Life
Battery life is especially important for a Bluetooth headset, especially a true wireless Bluetooth earphone that supports active noise cancellation. Although Sony doesn't perform as well as other niche headphones in terms of battery life, it can last about 18 hours of music under its excellent sound quality and ANC effect.
If you keep the ANC on, the WF-1000XM3 earbuds can last 4 hours of music time, if switch the ANC off, you can enjoy 4.5 hours of music time with a full charged WF-1000XM3 earbuds. Also, if you use it with the Sony WF-1000XM3 charging box, you have got an extra 9 hours (NC ON) music time.
On the other hand, Sony WF-SP800N has made an upgrade in terms of battery life. Its headphones can maintain about 9 hours of music after they are fully charged. Combined with the charger, they can be used for an additional 9-15 hours. It is no problem to maintain one day of use.
However, the supplied battery case charges via USB-C, and not support wireless charging.
Sony WF-SP800N vs WF-1000XM3: Waterproof
As we all know, Sony WF-1000XM3 does not support any level of waterproofing, which means that WF-1000XM3 is likely to be damaged when it comes into contact with water. The latest Sony WF-SP800N has been certified as IP655 waterproof and dustproof. So, the splashes, sweat, and dust won't stop these water-resistant headphones—or your workout. You can even wash them after a tough training session. While the “arc supporter” ear loop should help them stay in place while you're working out.
Sony WF-SP800N vs WF-1000XM3: Control and App
Like the Sony WF-1000XM3, the Sony SP800N has a touch panel on each earbud. By default, tapping the left briefly switches to Ambient mode, while tapping-and-holding temporarily bypasses the ANC when you just need to quickly respond.
Tapping the right earbud, meanwhile, toggles play/pause. Two taps skip forward; three skips back. Tapping-and-holding triggers your phone's voice assistant of choice, either Siri or the Google Assistant. Out of the box, there's no way to control volume from the earbuds themselves, but you'll be able to customize the controls in the Headphones app, including assigning volume to one or both earbuds.
To get more battery life, still include ANC function and great audio sound, IP55 waterproofing, and all at a lower price, Sony obviously had to make a few compromises in the all-new Sony WF-SP800N. What’s impressive is just how minor most of those compromises actually feel in practice. Although WF-SP800N can’t replace the Sony WF-1000XM3 but slot in underneath them. Still, there are some very good reasons why WF-SP800N might be the best fit for you.
