Sony Xperia L3: review of Sony's new entry-level smartphones
By Zim Watson 2019-05-21 1652 0
Test conclusion: What you need to know
Sony manages to make the Xperia L3 appear contemporary and visually match the other Sony novelties, even though it's the display that gets the short end of the stick. With an RRP of 199 euros, the L3 is not a cheap device. But the equipment is pleasingly complete. The endurance is top, the tempo is at the most class-compliant. The equipment is pleasingly complete.

Clearly, the attention is always on the top models, where the quantities are made with the cheaper models. In addition to the Sony Xperia 1, Sony Xperia 10 and Sony Xperia 10 Plus long display innovations, the Xperia L3 is the cheapest entry into Sony's new model family for 2019.
Sony Xperia L3 like "long"
In contrast to the more expensive novelties with an extreme 21:9 display, the Sony Xperia L3 comes with a display in 19:9 format. This isn't a break in the leg, especially as this is the current quasi standard anyway. Nevertheless, the Xperia L3 fits into Sony's new design language with 154x72x8.9 millimeters (mm), because it's also a rather long device. But there are more frames above and below the display than on the more expensive new Xperias. With so much space there is no need to integrate the front camera into the display.
Back: Plastic
Compared to the predecessor Sony Xperia L2, the case is longer, but with 6 mm much narrower and therefore much easier to grasp. However, the back of the L3 is made of smooth plastic. Our test device had the property that the thin plastic back gave way noticeably when you press on it. Here, the L3 doesn't make a high quality impression. The rest of the case, on the other hand, gives no reason to complain.
Sony Xperia L3: 5.7-inch display
The LC display is located under Gorilla Glass 5. It has a diagonal of 5.7 inches and a resolution of 1440x720 pixels and is accordingly longer than the Xperia L2 (1280x720; 5.5 inches). In the entry-level class, this ensures a sufficiently sharp display. The Xperia L3 competes with devices like the even cheaper Motorola Moto G7 Play. In the first check, the screen of the L3 left a good impression.
Sony Xperia L3: Cameras
The dual camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels. A 2-megapixel auxiliary lens is available for bokeh effects (blurred background). The front camera immortalizes Selfies with 8 megapixels. The first time I tried it, the photos on the display looked good.
Tempo, Memory and Dual SIM in Xperia L3
A Mediatek 6762 provides the usual class speed. But even Motorola's cheaper entry-level Moto G7 Play was about 25 percent stronger in the 3D benchmark. The Xperia 10 was only 15 percent faster. The L3 is not a gaming machine, but you can live with it in everyday life. The main memory amounts to 3 of the device memory 32 Gigabyte. Prima: Even if the memory is expanded via microSD, the dual SIM function is available.
Battery: Sony Xperia L3
The battery has a capacity of 3,300 mAh. It is charged via USB type C. In practical tests, the L3 showed good endurance and performed significantly better than Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus. In this chapter, the L3 even bypasses the enduring Moto G7 Play.
Sony Xperia L3: Features
The Sony Xperia L3 has a lateral fingerprint sensor. The wireless connections are comparatively complete with WLAN a/b/g/n/ac in the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz band, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. Unfortunately, Sony doesn't manage to deliver the L3 with the latest Android at the start of
sales. So the Xperia L3 still comes with Android 8.1. The headphone jack socket, on the other hand, is pleasing from yesterday.
Sony Xperia L3: Prices and availability
The Sony Xperia L3 has an RRP of 199 Euros. You can choose between black, silver and gold versions.
