The Drone-DJ site staff contacted the DJI representatives in the USA, but the company staff had no response to DJI Studio or DJI Storm. This means that the launch was so secret that not even a significant portion of the company's employees knew about it.
One of Storm's arms shows the phrase "Powered by DJI Studio" - "Driven by DJI Studio" in a free translation. The aircraft is of the type Octacoptero with four arms and offers a robust design for heavy loads. The load capacity is up to 18 kg, including professional film cameras and lenses from brands such as ARRI and Red.
The new drone incorporates the gimbal Ronin-2, while its chassis consists of three non retractable legs. Their engines have not been officially certified, but carry the M10 100-10 KV120, Made in China and a serial number - in addition to the DJI Propulsion Laboratory brand.
According to the site Drone DJ, the Storm has a maximum speed of 80km/h with a flight time of 8 to 15 minutes. They can operate at temperatures ranging from -10ºC to 40ºC, with batteries that can be changed quickly to continue filming.
DJI Storm can operate in conjunction with other company products such as MasterWheels and Force Pro. Its hiring includes an entire operation team and a dedicated production vehicle with uninterrupted power supply.
It is not known whether the DJI Studio service and the DJI Storm drone are offered in other countries such as the USA or Brazil. Nevertheless, it seems to be a very suitable service for Hollywood's big productions and even for TV series that don't have such a high budget. Nevertheless, the video gives the impression that the service will be more Asian oriented and that there is potential for expansion into Australia and New Zealand. These countries have laws for the use of more permissive drones.
