According to a statement from the TSMC, the company started the production of 7 N EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) processor technology. The company also stated that the efficiency of the new processor is the same as the 7 nm.
In February, DigitTimes reported that the company would start production of the new processor at the end of March, but the TSMC was delayed by two months. The TSMC did not say which product to use the first 7 NM processors, but Huawei's Kirin 985 can be built over 7 nm.
The processor will provide a 20 percent increase in the transistor density and deliver 10 percent more performance than the first generation 7 nm. It will also offer a lower power consumption of 7 NM by 15 percent.
7 nm is not the only processor in the TSMC's 7nm portfolio. This year, the company will introduce a second generation 7 NM processor, and next year it will start production of 6nm processor. The TSMC announced this year that the 7 NM processor capacity would be 150 per cent higher than last year and will start mass production for 5nm processors in the first quarter of 2020.
