Watch out! Fake Samsung firmware update tricks 10+ million Android users: How can you avoid such scams?

The Updates for Samsung app addresses these problems by promising to provide a one-stop shop for non-technical users, allowing Samsung mobile phone users to get firmware and operating system updates at the same time.
As you browse comments on the app, you can see hundreds of users complaining that the site is a hellhole full of ads. Most of them can't find what they want-only if the app works properly and doesn't crash.
The site offers free and paid (orthodox) Samsung firmware updates, but after delving into the app's source code, Kuplin said the site limited free download speed to 56kbps, and some free firmware downloads eventually failed regularly.
However, by making it impossible for users to download all the free firmware, the app forces users to buy a $34.99 premium kit to download any files.
The problem here is that the app violates Google Play rules by using its own payment system instead of using Google's official payment channel; Intercept the user's payment data, or let a third party record the data, rather than being processed by Google's better security payment channel.
Similarly, the app offers a $19.99 SIM card unlock service; however, it is not clear whether the service is as feasible as it says it is, or whether it is just another trick to grab money.
The number of Updates for Samsung apps installed has exceeded 10 million, so to avoid further damage to its users, Google needs to use its Play Protect protection service to disable the app directly on its users' phones.
How can you avoid such scams and update your phones firmware in the right way?
Most smartphone manufacturers push out firmware update routinely and users can receive the update notifications for the latest firmware. In addition, you can also update your phone’s firmware manually via the following steps:
Step 1. Go to Settings.
Step 2. Find “Software Update” in “Settings”. (For some other non-Samsung phones, you will find the software update in “About Phone”.)
Step 3. The it will automatically check your phone’s firmware update. If there is the latest firmware available, you can download and install it.
