why is NVIDIA called NVIDIA?

When Nvidia was founded in 1993, its founders Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem had a clear vision of the future of the PC. According to them, it will become a must-have machine for video games (while consoles were more popular at the time). They also anticipate that future productions will rely heavily on increasingly advanced graphics. They decide to focus on this element.
he forecasts of the three co-founders will prove to be correct and Nvidia will grow significantly in the years to come. After creating its first GeForce 256 graphics card in 1999, the company will be chosen by Microsoft to provide the processors for its Xbox console in 2000. It will then be Sony's turn to call on Nvidia in 2005 for its Playstation 3. Since then, the American company has continued to evolve its graphics processors and expanded its services. Today, she is venturing into the field of artificial intelligence, automobiles and cloud gaming.
But do you know the origin of his name?
THE ENVY AND THE EVIL EYE
In its early days, the graphics processor company had no name. "We couldn't find one," Jensen Huang told Fortune media in 2017. "So we named all our NV files as an abbreviation of Next Version. "After a while, it became necessary to find an official name. The co-founders were attached to the letters "NV" and searched for a word that would match this abbreviation. They finally chose the Latin term "invidia" (from which they removed the "i") which means "envy" or "jealousy".
The choice of this name was very important to Nvidia. It is from him that the company's logo, a green eye, was created. Indeed, the word "invidia" is also associated with the "evil eye", a curse thrown by a look. The colour green is often linked to jealousy, hence the expression "being green with jealousy". Given the success of the American company, it is assumed that this sentence applies mainly to its competitors.
