At the last IFA, Berlin's technology fair, Huawei presented its latest chipset, the revolutionary Kirin 980, whose main virtues are its construction with 7 nanometer technology and its double NPU for artificial intelligence tasks. This processor was created with the Huawei Mate 20, has been consolidated in the Honor View20 and we will also find it in the P30 which will be presented next week in Paris.
But Huawei is not stopping there and is already thinking about what he needs to compete with his competitors, namely the SoC Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820, in addition to the future Apple chip. If all goes well, we can see the Kirin 985 enter the scene in the second half of this year with the Huawei Mate 30.
It seems that Huawei will continue to rely on a 7 nanometer chip, but with one difference: the inclusion of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. This new construction process increases production because it works faster and at a lower cost. In this way, Huawei could afford to manufacture even more Kirin 985 chips to include in a larger number of smartphone models, thus reducing its dependence on Qualcomm and Mediatek to produce chips. In addition, it is expected to continue to rely heavily on artificial intelligence.
