The emphasis here being on the exact mode of transposition of games designed from scratch for Xbox for mobile devices, in particular for the Android platform. In addition, we also learn how, and whether, we can use a controller or controller, or whether we can only use the touchscreen of mobile devices.
xCloud will be Microsoft's Stadia
All the parallels are there. It is a game streaming service that promises a high quality. In order to bring a gaming experience at the console or PC level to any and every device, to any and every screen. If this sounds exactly like the premise of Google's Stadia it's because it's really the same.
So Microsoft will start with its current collection of games and, as we've recently mentioned, Forza Horizon 4 will be one of the first to arrive on Android devices. Something that shows us the openness of the company and its willingness to bring its services to the world's most popular platform.
We therefore have several challenges to overcome. Please note that we are talking here about native Xbox games, now for mobile devices. Especially for users who don't use a Bluetooth controller or command, but Microsoft is already guarding against it.
The Touch Adaptation Kit
According to Gus Apostol, one of the main programmers already working on xCloud, there are already tools designed for this purpose. In order not to force the programmers to reformulate the whole game so that it can also run on mobile devices, this being the premise of the Touch Adaptation Kit.
This will be the main tool that will allow programmers to easily apply the option of using the on-screen controls. Thus, circumventing the need for a keyboard and mouse to play also and mobile devices. At the same time, it is one of the facets that already distinguishes xCloud from Google's Stadia.
Like Google's Stadia, xCloud will also be a service in the Cloud
Microsoft is also counting on APIs prepared for cloud services. This being the backbone of the entire streaming game service. All the storage, processing and programming should occur in the cloud. Thus, the company wants to build a platform, from scratch, optimized for this reality.
As such, we will have an optimization of the games, and the platform, for small game sessions. That is, while the console or PC titles are not designed for short, mere minutes sessions, xCloud will be prepared for that. For interruptions at any time and for the possibility to continue playing, also at any time.
However, Microsoft keeps a watchful eye on what the competition concerns. Something that would come into the public domain of this one that Thurott has released an internal memo. Finally, xCloud is still being developed and will continue to reveal its secrets over time.
In fact, its official presentation should only take place during the E3 2019, therefore, from 11 to 13 June 2019. The cloud games are now the new stage. For players as well as for technology.
