By GB Blog Official 2018-03-27 8323 5
Since published, the XGIMI CC Aurora Mini Portable Projector has won wide popularity and good reputation on the market. The outstanding design and performance make it the winner of CES 2018 Innovation Award and also the bestsellers on our GearBest. So what makes it so special? Let's find out.
First, let's show you a brief introduction of XGIMI CC Aurora Mini Portable Projector via a video.

Simple and portable design
The first thing that stands out about the XGIMI CC is that it does not look like your typical boxy projector — the design is way more fun than that.
Made in beautiful white and sporting a handy strap at the top, the cube-shaped projector is definitely a treat for the eyes. Measuring 5.43 x 5.31 x 4.69 inches, it is very portable — plus, the aforementioned strap makes the whole carrying process an absolute breeze.
To get started, you will need to slide down the projector's front panel to expose the lens behind. On the front, you will also see a speaker and JBL's audio logo — so you can be sure your audio experience will be top notch for the speaker of this size. The front panel is a very nice touch as it can protect the projector's lens if you are planning to move it around a lot.
At the back, there are two USB ports, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a power input — everything you need to hook it up to power and other gadgets.
The projector comes with a Bluetooth remote control, which is, we have to admit, quite oversized — especially for such a miniature projector. Then again, this can be a plus for some as all the buttons are well-positioned and you get to have all the needed controls in one place including a microphone and focus switch.
Outstanding features and performance
There are several key things that make the XGIMI CC Aurora special.
High brightness
It's a very bright projector with 350 ANSI Lumens of light (especially compared to what other portable projector models offer for the price). Even if you don't feel like drawing the curtains on a very sunny day, you can easily use the projector without worrying about the picture fading out.
HD-quality video
The projector offers 720P HD native quality video with 4K support — so you will get a very nice viewing experience whether you are following a presentation or watching the latest blockbuster.
Large image size
The support of up to 180 inches equates to a 15-foot diagonal image — more than enough to fill the wall and create the cinematic experience.
AirPlay support
AirPlay support is a nice touch — and that goes for both video and audio. You will be able to easily mirror your Mac, iPhone or iPad onto the projected screen. So if you are a loyal iOS user, this feature will be a definite selling point.
3D capabilities
That's right, the miniature projector can bring all the fun of 3D TV onto any surface — try it out with a pair of dedicated XGIMI 3D glasses.

Additional apps support
You can install additional apps. Streaming is great, but you may want to have some of your favorite apps handy at all times. With a built-in app store with HBO, Netflix, YouTube and other popular apps, you can easily do that.
User-friendly software
The XGIMI CC Aurora uses a version of Android — so you have all the benefits of the familiar OS and a user-friendly UI. You will receive timely upgrades and additional features to further extend the projector's functionality — so stay tuned for updates.
The interface itself is easy to navigate: just scroll to get to right app. When you turn on the projector for the first time, you will have YouTube and file and web browser to get started.
The file browser is easy to work with: you can easily access local storage as well as external storage options. Swipe to the very left and you will see the option of switching to HDMI input.
Summing things up
Let's go back to feature list for a sec.
720 HD output, 4K support | Android OS with built-in app store |
WiFi, AirPlay and Miracast support | Super bright at 350 ANSI Lumens |
3D capabilities | Projects up to 180-inches image |
HDMI & USB inputs | Handy remote control |
Built-in JBL speaker | Carrying strap |
Priced at $569, the XGIMI CC Aurora does bring a lot to the table. Yep, the remote control may be unnecessarily large and you may find the battery life (8 hours on standby) a bit disappointing — but we are just nitpicking here. If you take all the functionality into account and add to it all the benefits of the nice design, portability and Android OS, you got yourself a steal!
