Xiaomi Mi A3, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Google Pixel 3a are three budget mid-range phones newly released this year. They have gained wide popularity thanks to their more excellent specs and performance in the same price range phones. But if we just talk about these 3 popular phones, which one is the best? That’s what we are discussing about today.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 follows the success of the Xiaomi Mi A2 launched last year. However, the model is not exactly new as it seems to have exactly the same specs as the earlier released Mi CC9e and is even available in the same color options.

Xiaomi Mi A3

Surprisingly, the phone comes with a downgrade in display resolution: it comes with a 6.08 inch 720 x 1560 display (compared to the Full HD+ display on the Mi A2). This, however, works in favor of the phone’s battery life. Compared to the 3000mAh battery on the previous model, the Mi A3 sports a giant 4,030 mAh battery paired with 18W fast charging.

A key upgrade on the Mi A3 is the bump in camera specs: the phone features a triple camera setup: a 48 MP primary sensor with an f/1.78 aperture and PFAD, an 8 MP ultra  wide-angle sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP dedicated depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The selfie camera on the front of the phone has a 32 MP sensor and uses Xiaomi’s signature  “perfect selfie” AI technology.

When it comes to the hardware, the Mi A3 packs the Snapdragon 665 processor with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is one of the most feature packed phones in this price range. It comes equipped with the Snapdragon 675 processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM. There is a 6.3-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) LTPS display protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

You get a nice camera setup on the back including a 48 MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF and a 5 MP dedicated depth sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. The selfies are captured by a 32 MP front camera.

On the battery side, you a get a massive 4,000mAh paired with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4.0 (18W).

The Google Pixel 3a is a very interesting phone. On paper, it does not look impressive — at all. You get the mid-range Snapdragon 670 with 4GB of RAM, a bare-minimum 1080p screen and very modest sounding cameras. With that, the phone looks and performs just like or better than phones that cost twice as much. As Google has optimized Android specifically for its Pixel phones, everything seems to work really fast, despite the mid-range hardware.

Google Pixel 3a

Most users look at the Pixel 3 phones for the cameras — and for a good reason. The Pixel 3a gets the same cameras as the Pixel 3: a 12 MP main sensor with the aperture of f/1.8 and optical image stabilization and an 8 MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Though the cameras look very unimpressive on paper (especially at a time when even the “budgetest” of smartphones feature triple camera setups), the Pixel 3a offers one of the best camera experiences on the mid-range market. Instead of relying on high-end hardware to do the heavy lifting, the Pixel 3a has done most of the hard work in the background using clever image processing to create mobile photos that rival those taken with a professional camera.

On the battery side, the Pixel 3a comes with a 3000mAh battery, which is pretty standard. However, paired with Pixel 3a’s processor dedicated to low power consumption, the phone lasts longer than its counterparts in the same price range.

The phone comes equipped with Active Edge: a feature that lets the user launch apps, dismiss alarms or trigger any action by squeezing the phone.

Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs Google Pixel 3a: which phone to choose?

All the phones in today’s review to very well for their price points. The Mi A3 follows Xiaomi’s traditional approach to a budget smartphone and is packed with plenty of functionality and a modern design.

The Redmi 7 Note Pro is a very similar story. The phone comes with a better display than the Mi A3 but is very similar in processing power and has the same capacity battery (even though it may be less long-lasting because of the higher resolution display).

The Google Pixel 3a is your best bet when it comes to capturing great photos and the phone’s overall performance is closer to that of more expensive devices. Plus, you get to avoid the bloatware typically found on Chinese devices. With that, it may look a bit boring when compared to the other two models in this review: you get a smaller display and sizeable bezels.
