Xiaomi Mi Band 4 review: better than Mi Band 3
By Mia Wang 2019-06-11 17667 2
Let’s explore this idea as we review Xiaomi’s latest smart band, the Mi Band 4.
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has inherited the Mi Band 3’s elongated shape, though the packaging has been revised.
You will be able to tell the color of the bracelet itself from the packaging. Mi Band 4’s available colors include graphite black, thermal orange, deep space blue, wine red and lotus powder.
Color AMOLED screen
The main display change on the Mi Band 4 (aside from the 2.5D edge) is that the new bracelet sports a touch color screen.
With the updated AMOLED display, the new watch offers a more interactive user interface and a more intuitive communication with the device: seeing your sports data on the bigger display also makes for a better experience.
More characters showed in the screen
According to the official data, the display on the Mi Band 4 has expanded by 39.9% and features a resolution that is twice that of the original. While the Mi Band 3 is able to fit only 24 Chinese characters, the Mi Band 4 can display up to 45 (we are using Chinese characters in this example). This makes it much easier to use and the Mi Band 4 would definitely be a better fit for those with poor eyesight.
77 built-in themes
A high-resolution, full-color screen also means more personalized settings. The Mi Band 4 has 77 built-in themes, including several popular ones like Overwatch, Ahri and so on.

Supports Alipay QR code payment
Thanks to the bracelet’s higher resolution, a QR code can be displayed on the screen more clearly (QR codes are the primary method of mobile payments in China). Plus, the Mi Band 4 supports Alipay QR code payment, which makes everyday shopping in China even more convenient.
Six-axis sensor supported
Naturally, fitness tracking is an indispensible feature on any smart bracelet. The Mi Band 4 is no exception. The bracelet will track your steps, count your calories and supports specific sports modes like swimming, outdoor running, indoor running, walking, exercise and cycling. The Mi Band 4 is 5ATM (50 m) waterproof.
The original three-axis sensor has been upgraded to a six-axis sensor, which greatly improves the accuracy and motion monitoring on the Xiaomi Mi Band 4.
"Flatter" home button
The touch button with a groove has changed to a flat screen on the Mi Band.
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 also comes in the NFC version, so some access cards can be replaced with the bracelet.

Xiao AI on the wrist
So, we’ve covered the bigger screen, improvements in design, NFC functionality and extensive sports tracking. Is there anything else that makes the Mi Band 4 stand out in the sea of other sports bracelets? The answer is yes and the answer is Xiao AI. Xiaomi’s dedicated smart assistant can be easily summoned on the bracelet and will answer your questions, help you plan your day and more.
Finally, let's talk about the smart bracelets
Among the changes the Mi Band has undergone while transitioning from Mi Band 1 to the Mi Band 4, there have always been a few constants — the shift towards a bigger display, more powerful battery and larger body. If the past is any indication, we should be expecting an even bigger screen in the next releases.
While smart bracelets are far from replacing smart phones, we are feeling a strong shift towards the mini bands taking on more of the phones’ functionality from web browsing and messaging to NFC payments and using smart assistants.
If you are looking for a new smart band that has a bit more to offer without being overloaded with unnecessary feature and bloated with unusable apps, consider the Mi Band 4. The bracelet’s starting price is 169 RMB ($24) and 229 RMB ($30) for the NFC version.
