After Google released a new Chromecast, Xiaomi released a new Xiaomi Box S streaming media player. Xiaomi's new streaming box offers almost the same functionality as the new Chromecast, but unlike the latter, it comes with an audio output port that supports 4K HDR video streaming.

The Xiaomi Box S can play streaming content in 4K format, and a voice remote control is also included for easy navigation. It comes with an Android TV based on Android 8.1 oreo, which integrates with Google Assistant and supports Chromecast. In the US, it is sold for $59.99 through and will begin shipping in the US on November 4. In contrast, the new 1080p non-4k Chromecast is priced at $59.

According to technical specifications, the Xiaomi Mi Box S is powered by a 64-bit quad-core leather A53 CPU and a Mali-450 GPU. It features 2GB of RAM, plus 8GB of eMMC storage and HDR support, which can play 4096 x 2160p resolution video at 60fps. The device's connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth v4.2, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 2.0a, a power connector, and the aforementioned audio output. It supports almost all major audio and video formats such as H.265, H.264, VP9, Dolby, DTS, Mp4, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF, and more. In addition, the remote control of the Xiaomi Box S supports voice search via Google Assistant, and a dedicated Netflix button.

The Millet box competes with the new Chromecast and last year's Chromecast Ultra. The new Chromecast is launched with the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3xl smartphones. Google says it is 15% faster than its predecessor and can now play 1080p video at 60 frames per second.

It should be noted that the new Chromecast does not support 4K resolution video streaming, users must purchase Chromecast Ultra, which supports ultra high definition video streaming.
