Xiaomi has recently launched a completely new phone line including the Mi CC9, Mi CC9e, and the Mi CC9 Meitu Custom Edition (which is the slightly more powerful version of the Mi CC9 and comes in a different color range). How do the two phones compare in between themselves and can they match up to the Mi 9 SE? This is what we are looking at today.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 vs Mi CC9e vs Mi 9 SE: highlights preview

The Xiaomi Mi CC9 comes with a larger higher resolution display

There is a faster processor onboard and a more powerful GPU

You get NFC support (which is lacking on the Mi CC9e)

Cameras are the same but the Mi CC9 can shoot slo-mo at up to 960fps

You get faster charging on the Mi CC9

The Xiaomi Mi CC9e is the lower-end version of both devices — and, while featuring a rather small price tag, may turn buyers away because of the 720P screen.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE comes quite close to the Mi CC9, but markets itself primarily as a camera phone and a Pixel 3a rival — and does manage to offer impressive quality and functionality for the money.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 vs Mi CC9e vs Mi 9 SE: design

The Mi CC9 and the Mi CC9e come with very similar designs: they flaunt the same gradient finish on their rear panels and both come with a 3D curve. Both phones are available in a trio of colors: Dark Blue Planet, Dark Night Prince and White Lover. The Mi CC9 is slightly larger than the MI CC9e and comes with a bigger 6.39 inch display and a bigger 85.8% screen-to-body ratio (compared to 80.3% on the Mi CC9e). Both phones come with thin bezels and have their front cameras placed in the waterdrop notch on the front. On the back, there are three vertically placed cameras — the fingerprint sensor is on the front, under the display.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 design

The Mi 9 SE does not look much different from the Mi CC9 and the Mi CC9e. The phone is smaller (5.81 x 2.78 x 0.30 inches) and was originally designed as a pocket-friendly alternative to larger devices. The screen is 5.97 inches and the screen-to-body ratio is estimated at 84.1%.

There is a notch on the front and an in-display fingerprint sensor — you will also see three vertically placed lenses on the back. The phone comes in two color options: Ocean Blue and Lavender Violet.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 vs Mi CC9e vs Mi 9 SE: performance

When comparing the Mi CC9 and the Mi CC9e, the Mi CC9 is the more higher-specced of the two. The phone also packs a faster processor and a faster charging standard. So, what’s inside?

The Mi CC9 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC clocked at 2.2 GHz. This comes together with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and two internal storage options: 64GB or 128GB.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 performance

The Mi CC9e, on the other hand, runs on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC speeding up to 2.0 GHz. There are two RAM options: 4GB and 6GB and the same internal storage: 64GB or 128GB. A notable difference between the two phones is the GPU: the Mi CC9 comes with the more powerful Adreno 616 while the Mi CC9e uses the lower-end Adreno 610. This makes the Mi CC9 a more mobile gaming friendly option. Plus, the Mi CC9 comes with NFC support, which enables mobile payments — and the Mi CC9e lacks this functionality.

The Mi 9 SE uses the Snapdragon 712 and there is 6GB of RAM onboard. As for internal storage, you will be able to choose between 64GB and 128GB. While the Mi 9 SE offers quite a bit more than most of its mid-range competition, there are two notable disadvantages: no headphone port and no expandable storage.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 vs Mi CC9e vs Mi 9 SE: cameras

Both the Mi CC9 and the Mi CC9e come with identical imaging hardware. The phones feature three cameras on the back: a 48 MP primary lens with f/1.8 aperture and PDAF, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a dedicated 2 MP depth sensor. The phones share most of the same camera app functionality with the one notable difference being that Mi CC9e can only record slo-mo videos at up to 240fps, while the Mi CC9 can shoot slo-mo at up to 960fps.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 cameras

The Mi 9 SE also features three rear cameras: a 48 MP primary cam with  f/1.8 aperture and

PDAF, an 8 MP telephoto lens with PDAF and a 13 MP ultrawide lens. Overall, the phone’s camera performance is quite solid — and you do get plenty of space for experimentation thanks to the triple lens setup. With that, it does fall notably short of the Pixel 3a (which it is meant to rival) when it comes to actual image quality.

On the front, the Mi CC9 and the  Mi CC9e come with 32MP selfie shooters, while the front camera on the MI 9 SE has 20 MP.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 vs Mi CC9e vs Mi 9 SE: battery and charging

Both the Mi CC9 and the Mi CC9e come with 4030 mAh batteries . The one difference is that they use different fast charging protocols: the Mi CC9 comes with QC 4.0 standard support and can be charged with an18W charger, while the Mi CC9e uses the slower QC 3.0 standard and relies a 10W charger to top up its battery. The Mi 9 SE sports a smaller 3070 mAh but comes with PD fast charging support and can be juiced up quickly using an 18W charger.

1,799 yuan (approximately $261) for the basic version of the Mi CC9
