Xiaomi Mi Max 4 - All specs leaked?

The Xiaomi Mi Max series has always been a larger version of the Xiaomi Redmi-Note series. So it's not surprising that the new Xiaomi Mi Max 4 also incorporates some elements of the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. This concerns not only the hardware but also the design of the tablet. The Xiaomi Mi Max 4, as well as the Pro version, is said to have a glass back. The standard version of the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 contains the fingerprint sensor as well as the dual camera. The Xiaomi Mi Max 4 Pro, on the other hand, is said to have a fingerprint sensor underneath the display, as we already know it from the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro. The back and front should be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 - but there is still a double risk of breakage compared to the full metal body of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3.
Note: Since the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 will probably look very similar to the Redmi Note 7, we have added pictures of the Note 7 for illustration. Just think of the Max 4 as one size bigger.
Some of the obvious things can still be taken for granted with the Mi Max 4 with quite a high degree of certainty. As always, the smartphone will have dual SIM, allowing the use of two SIM cards at the same time. We don't know yet whether the slot also allows memory expansion with a Micro-SD - but we assume that this has been the case with all Max smartphones from Xiaomi so far. A triple slot for a micro SD and two SIM cards would of course be particularly nice. Furthermore, we assume that there will also be a headphone connection. With the new Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi has already stuck to this popular feature.
One of the most important things about a Phablet is of course the display. Here Xiaomi will probably upgrade to the latest standards and reduce the display edges even further. There will also be a space-saving waterdrop notch like on the Redmi Note 7. Thanks to these two features, the display size will increase to 7.2 inches (Max 3: 6.9 inches), while the dimensions of the phablet will probably remain similar to its predecessor (176 x 87.4 x 8 mm). The Xiaomi Mi Max 4 won't become a mobile phone for one-handed use or easy storage in a trouser pocket, but nobody expects that from a smartphone named "Max".
As far as the panel is concerned, some users will probably ask themselves whether IPS or AMOLED will be used. According to the leaks, Xiaomi will continue to rely on IPS technology and we think it's likely. Although an AMOLED panel provides better contrast, panels with this technology are also considerably more expensive, which would drive up the price of the Max 4. In this respect we expect an IPS panel with Full-HD+ resolution, as it was already used with the Mi Max 3.
There is probably a difference between the standard and the pro version of the Xiaomi Mi Max 4. The standard version is supposed to be equipped with a Snapdragon 660 processor, while the pro version relies on a Snapdragon 675 CPU.
The Snapdragon 660 is now well known and has established itself as one of the most popular chips in the middle class. It integrates four Kryo 260 cores with 2.2 GHz in the power cluster and a further 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 cores in the power-saving cluster. The performance is typical for the upper middle class. Actually, there are no games or apps that would overtax the processor and there is always enough performance available for the fast operation of the system. Only those who worry about the sustainability of their smartphone in about 2 years, or those who frequently use their mobile phones for graphically demanding games, really need more performance. If you want to know more about the performance of the SD660, you can simply read our Redmi Note 7 test.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 4 Pro will be exciting. The Snapdragon 675 was only introduced at the end of last year and is Qualcomms new edition of the middle class. The Xiaomi Mi Max 4 Pro could become one of the very first smartphones with the new chip. The CPU has 8 Kryo 460 cores with up to 2.0GHz and an Adreno 612 GPU. In addition, the SD675 will be manufactured using the new 11 nanometer process, which will ensure excellent energy efficiency. The chip also supports Quick-Charge 4.0 and 50% faster AI performance. How all this works in practice we can't judge yet, but the Pro version of the Max 4 should bring a plus in performance.
As for the memory versions, there will be the Max 4 with 6/128GB, 6/64GB and 4/64GB memory. The Max 4 Pro is only a 4/64GB memory version. However, this will be considered rather unlikely. Why should the manufacturer combine the smallest memory combination with the new processor?
Also with the camera there should be differences between the two versions. But let's start with the Xiaomi Mi Max 4. On the back there will probably be the same or at least a similar dual camera setup as on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. At least it means that the 48 megapixel sensor Samsung GM1 will also be at the start. This sensor will probably be supported by a second sensor with 5 MP. The same setup as the Redmi Note 5 was also used for the predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 - Xiaomi saves the software optimization for two different smartphones and can implement updates on both phones without much effort - but let's be surprised. You can take a look at the photos of the Redmi Note 7 if you agree with us that the same camera setup will be used. For the middle class the offered quality is absolute top.
As far as the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 Pro is concerned, the main sensor should also have 48 megapixels, but the more expensive Sony IMX586 is used here. The same sensor is currently also found in the Honor View 20 and should bring 960FPS slow-motion shots as well as even better photo quality to the Max 4 Pro.
Battery and connectivity
In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 will probably have similar standards to the Redmi Note 7. This means you get Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual-Band Wifi with .ac standard. There will also be USB-C and a headphone port. Sensors will include a gyroscope and e-compass in addition to the standards, and there may even be an FM radio. We don't think it's likely that NFC will be on board for contactless payment.
One of the most ingenious features of all previous Xiaomi Max smartphones was the huge battery. According to the Leak, Xiaomi will remain true to this line and equip the Max 3 with a 5800mAh battery. So you don't just get a particularly large smartphone here, but also one with a brute battery life. Two days without recharging should be possible even under heavy use. The Xiaomi Max 4 Pro will probably achieve even better values than the normal Max 4, as the processor works more power-saving.
As far as charging the smartphones is concerned, there is supposed to be an 18 watt quick charging function. Whether the fashion feature Wireless Charging will also be on board is not known. The back of the glass at least makes it possible.
Release date and price
Surprisingly, the leak includes detailed pricing for the Max 4, while there is no pricing for the Max 4 Pro. Xiaomi is supposed to call the following prices for the standard version:
Xiaomi Mi Max 4 – 4/64GB: 1599CNY = 206€
Xiaomi Mi Max 4 – 6/64GB: 1799CNY = 232€
Xiaomi Mi Max 4 – 6/128GB: 1999CNY = 258€
However, the launch date of the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 is not yet known. We estimate that the Phablet will see the light of day in the second quarter of this year. How quickly there will be a global version is of course another question.
The same applies as so often: the leaks sound realistic, but could also be completely imagined together. If the Xiaomi Mi Max 4 were to see the light of day in this form, it would be the most price/performance-rich phablet on the market. The design complies with current standards, the Snapdragon 660/675 provides enough power in both versions and the camera of the Redmi Note 7 would also be a nice thing. We are curious how the information situation around the Mi Max 4 will develop and will add this article as soon as there are news.
