Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro vs. Pocophone F1: design

The Pocophone F1 is known for its simple yet durable build. The phone is made out of polycarbonate, which is a hard-wearing but budget option for a phone in this price range. For the color options, you get the simple selection of blue, black and red color versions.

On the back, the phone comes with two vertically placed cameras  sitting right above the fingerprint sensor. There are red flashes circling the sensor - but this is purely for aesthetics.

On the front, the phone sports an already old-fashioned wide and thick notch, which, to be fair, allows for more screen real estate. The notch houses the phone’s selfie camera.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro definitely comes with a more "modern" design (which is understandable since the phone was released just two months ago). You get a 6.3 inch screen with a much smaller teardrop notch at the top housing the phone’s front cam. The fingerprint sensor also sits on the back of the phone just below the rear cameras. As for the color options, you get to choose between the trendy Nebula Red, Neptune Blue and Space Black.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro vs. Pocophone F1: performance

At the time of its release, the Pocophone F1 could well be the best value for money offer. The phone runs on the high-end Snapdragon 845 CPU paired with an impressive 6GB of RAM. The processor uses a 10 nm process and integrates four Kryo 385 cores (Cortex-A75) at up to 2.8 GHz and four Kryo 385 cores  at 1.8 GHz (max). There is an an X20 LTE modem onboard as well as the Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU for graphics.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with the mid-range Snapdragon 675 CPU running on six Kryo 460 Silver high-efficiency cores operating at 1.8 GHz and two high-performance Kryo 460 speeding up to at 2GHz. There is an an X12 LTE modem onboard and the graphics performance is backed up by the Adreno 612 GPU. There is 4GB of RAM onboard.

Both smartphones come with a decent-sized 4000mAh battery. It should be noted here that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the first in the Redmi line to feature a USB Type-C port for charging instead of a micro USB; the Pocophone F1 is also charged via a USB Type-C port. You also get the support of Quick Charge 4.0 on both phones.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro vs. Pocophone F1: cameras

The Pocophone F1 does not come with a bad camera offer — but it’s nothing to write home about. You get a very budget camera setup on the back: 12MP + 5MP dual cameras with AI scene detection and other smart enhancement options. On the front, things get a bit better with a 20MP selfie shooter featuring 2μm large pixel technology and AI Beautify 4.0 for studio-grade portraits.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, however, is way more impressive when it comes to cameras.

There is an impressive 48MP primary camera on the back paired with a 5MP secondary sensor. The camera uses the Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.79 aperture (which is larger than on the  iPhone XS Max). With the Redmi Note 7 Pro’s rear camera, you can record 4K video at 30fps and use electronic image stabilization to minimize blur and noise. With that, on the front, the phone comes with a simple 13MP camera — you do get a variety of beautifying selfie effects though.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro vs. Pocophone F1: which phone is better?

First, let’s look at the prices. For the 6+128GB version, the Pocophone F1 is priced at about $300 while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro is available for about $329. Without beating about the bush, both phones are great value for money. The Pocophone F1 is more performance-oriented and you do get a high-end processor and more RAM. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, on the other hand, counters that with a better design and more powerful cameras.

Which offer you value more is, as always, entirely up to you.

However, if you are leaning towards the Pocophone F1, we suggest you hold on a bit till the arrival of the Pocophone F2 scheduled for this year。
