There are 4 major differences between Roborock S6 and Mijia 1S. Let's explore more details about them one by one.
Difference 1: which robot vacuum is smarter?
Roborock S6 only uses LDS (laser distance sensor) to see the surroundings like human, however, Mijia 1S works with LDS and an HD visual sensor perfectly combined, scanning the environment 360° 5 times per second and automatically identifying rooms by recognizing the doors for accurate mapping and positioning. Thanks to the dual SLAM systems, the latter vacuum provides more stable performance – it will never miss any part even if it is moved, capable of cleaning the entire floor despite interference from the outside, e.g. your cats regard it as a toy and play with it when it is working.
You should notice that Roborock S6 uses the same processing units as Mi robot vacuum cleaner, namely, ALLWINNER TECH R16 Quad Core SoC, a digital signal processor from Texas Instruments, and STM32F103 MCU. The SoC consists of 4 Cortex-A7 cores, that of Mijia 1S is the upgraded version, with 4 Cortex-A35 cores whose performance is boosted by 40%. This means a significant improvement of cleaning efficiency, i.e. a 13% increase according to the official data.
Difference 2: sensors for the best coordinative work
As sensors play an important role in autonomous cleaning, both robot vacuums are laden with over ten kinds of sensors. Roborock S6 has 14 kinds of sensors and Mijia 1S has 12 ones. What are the differences?
Type Model | Xiaomi Roborock S6 | Xiaomi Mijia 1S |
1. Laser Distance Sensor | Yes | Yes |
2. Visual Sensor | No | Yes |
3. Dust Collector Detector | Yes | Yes |
4. Bump Sensor | Yes | Yes |
5. E-compass | Yes | Yes |
6. Cliff Sensor | Yes | Yes |
7. Edge Sensor | Yes | Yes |
8. Gyroscope | Yes | Yes |
9. Accelerometer | Yes | Yes |
10. Anti-drop Sensor | Yes | Yes |
11. Odometer | Yes | Yes |
12. Fan Speed Sensor | Yes | Yes |
13. Self-charging Sensor | Yes | No |
14. Water Tank Detector | Yes | No |
15. Pressure Sensor | Yes | No |
The two extra sensors on Roborock are related to mopping. Apart from that, theoretically, their functions are the same, they can recognize different rooms after scanning and return to recharge itself in case of low battery, although Roborock S6 doesn't have a visual sensor, Mijia 1S doesn't have a self-charging sensor.
Difference 3: dust collector size and mopping
Is your house big? Are there too many impurities to clear away? Is mopping a part of your daily routine? The dust collector of Mijia 1S cleaner is 0.42L, smaller than 0.7L, that of Roborock S6. As we all know that as soon as a dust collector is filled, nothing can be sucked in until you empty the rubbish, that is why the size is so important. Generally, the bigger, the better, fewer times you have to empty it.
Mopping is also another consideration. Mijia 1S can't mop, while Roborock S6 offers the best solution to a shiny floor. Roborock S6 comes with 10 pieces of disposal mop, which is wonderful for those who don't want to clean the dirty mop each time after mopping. This kind of mop will be readily available soon, each piece costs only about $0.5.
Difference 4: Roborock S6 is more user-friendly than Mijia 1S
First and foremost, because the roller brush of Roborock S6 can be taken off and dismantled, you won't have the trouble of removing the hair stuck inside occasionally and make your hands dirty. Secondly, Roborock S6 offers you 2 years warranty, which is 100% longer than nearly any other Roborock vacuum in the market. Choose T6, you will enjoy the peace of mind for a longer period. What's more, this new vacuum cleaner also generates lower noise by filling the machine with soundproof cotton and noise-cancelling air filter inside. Thus, you won't have to go out at weekends after it sets about working. Read your favorite books without feeling disturbed at all.
Are there any similarities?
Sure! There are at least three similarities as follows:
The suction of Xiaomi Roborock S6 and Mijia 1S robot vacuum is up to 2000Pa, powerful to take away all impurities on the carpet. The suction power can be adjusted easily on the App since the App is shared by the two vacuum cleaners. Therefore, you can easily specify the cleaning zones, set up timers, block certain areas...
The 5200mAh battery pack of Roborock S6 and Mijia 1S robot vacuum suffices 2.5 hours cleaning, which is equivalent to a 250 square meters house. The two smart vacuums will return to the charging base when the battery level is less than 20%.
The design of the charging base is the same – the length of the cord can be adjusted for a cleaner look. After fully charged, the robots will start cleaning from exactly where it stopped last time, avoid doing any repetitive works.
If you have Xiao Ai speaker connected to the same WiFi network, the two cleaners can also follow your commands. Just say "Xiao Ai, sweep the floor", "Xiao Ai, stop cleaning", "Xiao Ai, return home to recharge" or something likewise. Hopefully, the smart voice assistant will come up with an English version in the future for worldwide use.
The verdict
To conclude, both robot vacuums are great choices: Roborock S6 vacuum cleaner is more user-friendly, whereas, Mijia 1S is more economical. If you don't like to mop the floor, deal with the troublesome hair of the roller brush, put up with annoying noise, you'd better buy Roborock S6. However, Mijia 1S is a better choice if you don't need mopping, and there is barely hair on the floor/carpet.
