The Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter - speed, battery life & operation
The Xiaomi M365 folding electric scooter, a new stylish way to get around, has won the confidence of many commuters thanks to its simple design, light weight and a reliable performance.
Right after Xiaomi's launch of the QiCYCLE R1 TDF-level professional road bike and Ninebot mini self-balancing scooter (both featuring an 18650 battery and a foldable design), the company is already proud to present a new way to move about - the M365 Electric Scooter.
A scooter has always been looked upon as young people's plaything - but with a few recent releases, including the M365, the tide is changing. With a high travel speed and the ultra-long cruise distance, an electric scooter is no longer just for fun. It's a convenient and reliable way to get around - let's see why!
Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter Speed
The Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter has 8.5-inch front and rear pneumatic tires with excellent shock absorption, abrasion resistant, and anti-skid capability. This lets you ride in comfort on almost any type of urban terrain from a cement pavement to a flat dirt road and even small steps (up to 10mm/0.39-inch in height), and the channels or grids (up to 30mm/1.18-inch in width).
Featuring a 250W rated power brushless motor, the Xiaomi M365 electric scooter is capable of achieving the speed up to 25km/h in normal mode. Also, it can arrive at the 16N·m maximum torque of the motor, and provide instantaneous maximum power up to 500W.
When the scooter is in the energy-saving mode, the speed is automatically reduced to 18km/h. On average, the walking speed of an adult is about 1m/s, that is 3.6km/h. In other words, even in energy-saving mode, taking the Xiaomi M365 Scooter is 5 times faster than walking.
The Xiaomi electric scooter has a linear pressing type throttle, which means that the more you press onto it, the more power you will get. This is quite different from a switch type throttle - which only allows speed changes when riding. Plus, the M365 scooter can maintain a steady low speed - which is not easy for most scooters.
Gently press the throttle on the handlebar to control the speed - easy and convenient to operate.
When starting to ride the M365, you will first need to push with your foot for initial speed - just pressing the throttle won't be enough. This is also a good safety feature preventing injury should you press the throttle accidentally.
The 250W DC motor coupled with 8.5-inch pneumatic tires, the Xiaomi M356 provides a stable power output, comfortable and safe riding experience.
Note that it's not recommended to ride the scooter at a speed over 18km/h, in a traffic jam and in bad weather.
Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter Battery Life
This foldable Xiaomi electric scooter comes with the LG high security 18650 lithium batteries, located in the lower part of the pedal. With the 280Wh total battery power, 37.41V output voltage, and 7800mAh battery capacity, it supports a maximum range of 30km when carrying a 75kg rider (15km/h uniform) which is great considering the size. And it only needs about 5 hours to fully charge - even faster than a smartphone.
If my travel distance to work is 2km, I can technically ride back and forth 7 times before a re-charge is needed. That is, I can commute to work easily for a whole week before plugging it in.
Not to mention that I will get to work much faster without bothering with the bus, taxi or subway and conveniently avoiding the morning rush.
The scooter is suitable for a distance of up to 5km. In theory, of course, you can ride it for longer distances, but spending too much time in an upright position when riding may get tiring. Overall, the Xiaomi M365 is the perfect solution for short-distance travel.
The Xiaomi electric scooter is also equipped with a kinetic energy recovery system: it will convert kinetic energy to electric energy for storage and reuse, prolonging the scooter's battery life. To activate energy recovery, press the brake or release the throttle.
Another way of prolonging the scooter's battery life is to set the cruise control on Mi Home app. This will allow the scooter to go into an intelligent riding mode. This mode uniforms the speed, saves power and, as a result, releases the tension and fatigue from manual control.
Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter Operation
The M365 Electric Scooter also comes with a powerful display with 4 LED lights and a single button between the handle grips. Use the button to control motor, modes and the scooter's headlight via different pressing patterns.
● Turn on the scooter: short press the button in the switch-off state.
● Turn off the scooter: press the button for 2 seconds on a switch-on state.
● Turn the headlights on/off: short press the button after the scooter is turned on.
● Activate energy saving mode/go back to normal mode: double press the button after the scooter is turned on.
As for the LED lights, they indicate the scooter's battery status and its current mode.
After switching on the scooter:
● The 4th LED is green, the scooter is in energy mode.
● The 4th LED is white, the scooter is in normal mode.
● 4 solid LEDs glow - 100% - 86% battery remaining.
● 3 solid LEDs glow and 1 LED is flashing - 85% - 71% battery remaining.
● 3 solid LEDs glow - 70% - 56% battery remaining.
● 2 solid LEDs glow and 1 LED is flashing - 55% - 41% battery remaining.
● 2 solid LEDs glow - 40% - 25% battery remaining.
● 1 solid LEDs glow and 1 LED is flashing - 24% - 11% battery remaining.
● Only 1 LED is flashing, the battery is going to out of juice, a recharge is needed.
With the LG high security 18650 batteries and kinetic energy recovery system, the Xiaomi electric scooter provides a 30km ultra long cruising distance. Plus, the 4 LED lights indicate the battery level clearly so that you instantly know when a recharge is needed.
All in all, the Xiaomi M365 folding electric scooter is a great option for short distance travel (perfect for distances less than 5km). The scooter comes with the maximum speed of 25km/h and up to 30km cruise distance. It's a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly mode of transport for daily commute.
