AMD's second generation EPYC Opteron processor is manufactured in a 7nm process and features a modular design with separate CPU and E/A cores, eight 8-core processor cores and a 14nm E/A core on the same substrate. Core 128 threads, IO core integrated PCIe 4.0, DDR 4 memory controller and other 225W, compared with the flagship Snapdragon 7601's first generation, the number of core threads doubled, the cache capacity of the third level tripled, the highest frequency increased by 200MHz, thermal design The power consumption has increased by only 45W.
Recently, a Belgian hardware retailer called 2Compute announced the price, cache and core clock rate of the Opteron series.
It is reported that AMD plans to launch 64/48/32/24/16/12/8 core processors from EPYC Rome. Most of them have three derived configuration options, including the dual-slot compatible high-end (common) single-slot version and affordable entry-level version.
The price for these processors is between $510 and $7,800. Most attractive, however, is the EPYC 7742 with 64 cores and 128 threads starting at 5,000 US dollars.
In contrast, Intel's current top flagship Xeon Platinum 9282 has 56 core-112 threads, the highest frequency of 3.8 GHz, a thermal design power consumption of up to 400 W, the price is not officially estimated at 2.5-5 million U.S. dollars.
With approximately the same number of cores, the cost of the AMD32 core Opteron processor is 29% higher than for the Intel 28 core version. One can speak of an absolute price advantage, but it remains to be seen whether it can break Intel's dominant position. The market will continue to be tested.
