Beats Powerbeats Pro test: Is it the best true wireless earphones?
By Fields Corrielus 2019-06-24 1509 0
Test conclusion: What you need to know
The Beats Powerbeats Pro have the longest battery life of all true wireless headphones so far with over 11 hours, sound great and cut a pretty good figure in sports. They sit very comfortably and absolutely safely, no matter what the athlete does. Only the rather clumsy format of the charging box is annoying. The bottom line was that the True Wireless headphones still played their way to the top of the best list.

Finally they are here: The long announced in-ear headphones Beats Powerbeats Pro have made it to the COMPUTER BILD editorial office. Completely wireless and with earhooks, these true wireless headphones are designed to stay safely in your ears even during extreme sports activities. COMPUTER BILD did the test and took them to a round of crossfit.
Beats Powerbeats Pro tested: Better for athletes
With the Powerbeats Wireless model, Beats already has very functional in-ears that are perfectly suited for sports in its range. Thanks to Bluetooth, they don't need a direct line to the smartphone, but a short piece of cable connects the right to the left in-ear plug. This connection cable is omitted with the Powerbeats Pro - therefore True-Wireless. In contrast to the Apple AirPods, probably the best known true wireless models, the Powerbeats sit directly in the ear canal and not in front of it. This makes them better at shielding external noise from the user. At 21 grams, the pair of beats is not a lightweight, but adjustable temples provide a secure hold. The earpieces lie over the ears and hold the plugs in place during the test, even during cross-fit use. Almost a matter of course for sports headphones: the Powerbeats Pro doesn't mind sweat or splashing water.
Beats Powerbeats Pro: Solid operation
The operation of the Powerbeats Pro will love or hate athletes. Because: Beats mirrors the controls so that the same inputs can be made on both the left and right earphones. Practical when the right hand is holding the 10-kilo dumbbell, the athlete adjusts the volume on the left earpiece. The multifunction button, which is hidden under the typical "b" logo, has a slightly soft pressure point and serves as a pause button, answers calls or calls Siri on the plan. However, with the appropriate activation on the iPhone, a spoken "Hey Siri" is enough to wake up Apple's language assistant. With a double click on the multifunction button, it goes one title further, with a triple click one title back - a little fiddly, but it works.
Beats Powerbeats Pro: Marathon Battery
Also good with the previous Powerbeats3 Wireless: the battery life and charging time. Thanks to quick charging technology, five minutes on the charger was enough for over an hour of subsequent music enjoyment in the test. The new Powerbeats Pro looks even better. The battery life of about 11:22 hours is absolutely top, even the - admittedly much smaller - Samsung Galaxy Buds can't keep up with almost eight hours. The AirPods, on the other hand, seem to have a weak physical condition with six hours. In the quite large and with 110 grams also quite heavy charging box the plugs fill up again. Already after five minutes in the box, they played again for a good two hours in the test - also a new record mark. The well-made box can only be recharged via its Lightning connection with a USB power supply or a computer with a USB connection, not wirelessly like the new AirPods box.
Beats Powerbeats Pro: How headphones sound
Athletes need the right punch in the bass range and a dynamically driving sound to spur their muscles to peak performance. And the Powerbeats deliver. In the test, the sound is quite powerful, but without exaggerating like earlier Beats models. Basses are precise, mid-range and treble are clean and detailed with a slightly fresh note. In direct comparison to the Apple AirPods, they sound a bit cooler, but also more transparent and detailed.
