DJI intends to introduce a technology to discovery and monitor the drone location in real time

By  Adan Flannigan 2019-11-15 266 0

DJI is developing a technology that will allow anyone with a smartphone to track drones that are nearby. The news was announced in the context of driving the data transparency of the drone industry to a greater extent. DJI said that tracking technology will be open to the public through a smartphone app and be launched in 2020.

Only by using Wi-Fi, users can use the app to identify the identification number of nearby drones as well as the location, altitude, speed and direction of the drones.

It is reported that the app is likely to be launched next year and is still awaiting regulatory approval. DJI says the purpose of the new technology is to enhance security and peace of mind.

DJI said its application is effective for drones that occur within 1 km. It is worth noting that the system is suitable for all drones manufactured in the past few years, not just drones manufactured in DJI, but the company has not yet determined the specific list of compatible drones.

To be sure, this new app won't be as powerful as AeroScope, a dedicated system that DJI released in 2017 to track rogue drones. A spokesman for DJI said that DJI proposed to open to other manufacturers but no company was willing to accept it. It is reported that because AeroScope has a stronger transmission capacity - as strong as the drone's conventional command and control signals - it can monitor drones a few miles away. The spokesman pointed out that airports, prisons and stadiums may continue to use AeroScope.
