HTC launches Exodus 1S: the first smartphone that can run a full Bitcoin Node

By  Goraud Mazanec 2019-10-21 286 0

Taiwan's electronics giant, HTC, has launched its new Exodus 1s smartphone, which allows users to run a full Bitcoin (BTC) node on their mobile.

First smartphone compatible with full Bitcoin node

In line with an announcement in May 2019, HTC launched the Exodus 1s at the Lightning Conference in Berlin on October 19 and began selling the first devices during it, even using Lightning's payment network, the firm said in a press release to Cointelegraph.

The new Exodus 1s is a lower-cost version of HTC's pioneering blockchain phone, Exodus 1, which recently added Bitcoin Cash (BCH) support. At a price of €219 (USD 233), the new device is available for purchase with Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Binance Coin (BNB) and Bitcoin Cash, according to the company.

In addition to offering options to buy, sell, ship, receive, exchange and loan, HTC states that Exodus 1s is the first smartphone capable of running a complete Bitcoin node.

Initial availability

The product will initially be available to users in Europe, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, while other regions such as Taiwan, Switzerland and Germany will be launched at a later date, the firm said.

Phil Chen, Decentralized General Manager of HTC, stated that complete nodes are the "most important ingredient in the resistance of the Bitcoin network," noting that with the launch of Exodus 1s the company has lowered the entry barrier for anyone to manage a node and participate in the global network.

The predecessor of Exodus 1s, Exodus 1s and "the first native chain block phone" was announced for pre-sale on October 23. 2018 and was available in 34 regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

In mid-September, the decentralized offline crypt sales company, Pundi X, presented its Blok smartphone at the Blok blockchain at the IFA show in Berlin. On October 8, South Korean electronics giant LG was reported to develop its own blockchain phone in response to Samsung's Klaytn blockchain smartphone.
