Earlier, Liu Kang, Huawei's chief representative in the European Union, said Huawei was selecting a site in Europe to build a plant to produce 5G equipment. At present, there are several candidate target locations. Huawei has chosen to build its first 5G manufacturing plant in Europe in France, and in the first phase Huawei will invest 200m euros ($217 million) in the plant, which will create about 500 jobs, Mr Liang said today.
In addition, Mr Liang said the plant would supply the entire European market, not just the French market, and Huawei had explained its plans to the French government. Liu Kang also said earlier this month that Huawei has been in Europe for 20 years since it invested in setting up an R & D center in Sweden and will come to China in the hope of integrating more closely into Europe.
At present, France is in the early stage of launching the 5G network and has not yet selected a supplier. But the Macron government has said it will give network equipment suppliers, including Huawei, a fair chance.
