In 2018, the company supplied systems with these processors to a number of research institutes at universities, but the serial production and commercialization of the project was not discussed then.
Today, Intel introduced a new Loihi-based product, Pohoiki Beach. It is a system that includes 64 Loihi processors, i.e. it has a total of 8.32 million neurons and 8.32 billion synapses.
It is reported that Pohoiki Beach systems will be available to more than 60 ecosystem partners. This is probably the Intel Neuromorphic Research Community. However, Intel says nothing about the commercial supply and sale of these solutions, so the status of Loihi is still unclear. According to certain phrases in the press release, Loihi remains a product available only to a number of Intel institutions and partners.
By the way, later this year Intel will present Pohoiki Springs system, which will be even more productive than Pohoiki Beach. However, it is not yet known how many Loihi processors it will include. The company is talking about 100 million neurons, which is about 77 processors.
