Lenovo unveils new ThinkPad X1 Yoga, Intel Comet Lake processors

By  Sigismondo Eisenhower 2019-08-29 694 0

Lenovo updates its ThinkPad X1 Yoga. Designed for mobile and professional users, this ultraportable convertible is equipped this year with a redesigned 100% aluminum chassis and the all-new Intel Core Comet Lake generation processors. Unveiled last week, they also equip the new Dell XPS 13s as well as the Prestige 14 / 15 and Modern 14, announced a few days ago by Taiwanese MSI.

Without overturning the iconic design of the ThinkPad devices, Lenovo is gently evolving its X1 Yoga, designed for "road warriors and professionals". The formula is quite pompous, but the device should fit its target audience with a 14-inch template (for just 15.5 mm thick), a planed weight once again (only 1.3 kilos) and Intel processors with up to six cores on board for improved performance over previous versions.

An offer as complete as ever in terms of display

On the display side, Lenovo maintains the options offered in the past on this model. By default, we inherit a full HD touchscreen IPS panel, but opting for a WQHD or 4K panel is possible. The Ultra HD display available as an option on the ThinkPad X1 Yoga is equipped with Dolby Vision support, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

Inside the new Lenovo-designed aluminum chassis, a 10th-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor (Comet Lake) is quietly activated, with four or six cores depending on the model chosen. No dedicated graphics chip, however, X1 Yoga must be satisfied with the iGPU UHD Graphics 620 integrated with Intel processors. The device will therefore show some limitations in heavy video editing or photo retouching, especially against the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, which relies on a GTX 1650 MaxQ from NVIDIA and its 4GB of video memory.

As a matter of memory, the X1 Yoga has 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a maximum of 2 TB of SSD storage (NVMe). The connection system is based on 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A inputs, 1 HDMI 1.4 output and a 3.5mm jack combo. The 51 Wh battery must allow an estimated autonomy of a maximum of 18 hours 30 minutes. Lenovo finally points out the integration of an audio system composed of 4 Dolby Atmos certified speakers and the presence of a 720p webcam that can be hidden thanks to the small ThinkShutter tab (integrated for one year to many Lenovo laptops, it allows to hide the webcam when it is not used... for more security).

ThinkPad X1 Yoga

ThinkPad X1 Yoga is expected to be on the market in the coming weeks. The prices are not yet revealed in detail, but they will certainly vary by a factor of two depending on the configuration chosen.
