PineTime Linux smartwatch features
Tentative PineTime features include heart rate monitoring and multi-day endurance, with a desktop charging base, and the use of zinc alloy and plastic chassis. Waterproof performance, touch screen support and overall display quality have yet to be confirmed. However, details such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and system-level chip (SoC) have been released.
Of course, all the features and functions depend to a large extent on the software the device is running. PineTime software will be developed by the broader Linux development community on a lightweight FreeRTOS or ARM MBED basis. "We generally allow communities and developers to push this in the direction they want," the company said.
In addition, it is also possible to have some kind of integration with other Pine64 products through complementary applications.
The PineTime watch will be based on a Nordic nRF52832 ARM Cortex-M4F system-level chip running in 64MHz, which has Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth, ANT and 2.4 GHz proprietary stacks, and NFC-A. The exact flash and RAM are not known, but it may have 512KB flash and 64KB SRAM.
At the moment, PineTime does not accept any reservations or pre-order until Pine64 is developed next year.
