Samsung announces Exynos 9825, the world's first 7nm EUV chip

By  Town Kassis 2019-08-07 246 0

With less than a day to go before Samsung Galaxy Note 10 launch, Samsung has officially released the Exynos 9825. The SoC uses Samsung's 7-nanometer EUV process, which improves transistor performance by 20-30% and reduces power consumption by 30-50%.

Exynos 9825 retains a three-cluster CPU architecture

Let's take a look at the processor configuration. The Exynos 9825 is powered by Samsung's two custom cores, two Cortex-A75 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores to maintain energy efficiency. Samsung has not yet released the clock speed of the three-cluster CPU configuration, which is expected to be announced at the press conference. In addition, the GPU is Mali-G76, and the GPU of Exynos 9820 is the same.

Samsung says both the Mali-G76 and Cortex-A75 have faster clocks, making the Exynos 9825 faster than the Exynos 9820 in "internal testing.

NPU (Neural processing Unit)

Samsung Exynos 9825 also integrates the NPU, neural processing unit designed to improve artificial intelligence photography and take advantage of augmented reality applications.

NPU will be responsible for object recognition, as well as the selection of ideal scenes, with the help of image signal processor (ISP), so that users can experience good color balance and better imaging results.

NPU will also intelligently identify the usage patterns of smartphone users and support faster application preloading.

Mobile connection

The Exynos 9825 integrates 4G LTE advanced Pro modems with 8x carrier aggregation to provide up to Cat. 20% LTE download speed, up to 2Gbps, up to 316Mbps upload speed, and seamless connection to Samsung's Exynos modem 5100.

Video format and resolution support

Samsung said its latest Exynos 9825 multi-format codec, (MFC), supports up to 8K video coding (30FPS), 4K coding (150FPS) and 10-bit HEVC (H.265) codecs.

The Exynos 9825 can support 4K UHD resolutions of 4096 x 2160 pixels, as well as WQUXGA resolutions of 3840 x 2400 pixels. Exynos 9825 also supports UFS 3.0 storage.
