Samsung Electronics' new research and development center in Vietnam is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022, according to Yonhap news agency. The building covers an area of 79000 square meters, with a scale of 3 stories underground and 16 floors above ground. When completed, it can be used by 3000 employees and will become the largest R & D center of Samsung Electronics in Southeast Asia. In addition to the office area, the building is also equipped with many high-tech facilities, gymnasium, restaurant and roof courtyard to facilitate employees to carry out leisure activities after work.
It is reported that the Samsung factory in Vietnam produces nearly 2/3 of Samsung-branded mobile phones and is one of the most important production bases for Samsung Electronics. However, many of the mobile phone parts used by Samsung's Vietnam factories are heavily dependent on Chinese factories, and it will be difficult for Vietnamese factories to maintain production if Samsung suppliers in China affect the supply of components for other reasons. In addition, Samsung's supply chain in China was strained in February because of the new coronavirus outbreak, and Samsung had to airlift the parts to Vietnam to avoid bigger production problems.
