[PConline Information] the developers of the Debian project, a branch of Linux, recently warned that there are major defects in the hyper-threading capabilities of Intel's latest Kaby lake and previous-generation Sky lake architecture processors, which may lead to data errors and loss. Hyper-threading must be turned off immediately.

In addition to notebook Core i3, i5, i7 and desktop Core i3, i7, Pentium with Kaby Lake architecture will also be affected by the addition of hyper-threading support, such as the G4560, which is called "cost-effective God U". To see if your CPU schema is affected, just open the CPU-Z software, and if it appears as Sky Lake or Kaby Lake, in the code and the number of cores below is different from the number of threads, it is affected by this BUG.

The Intel processor hyperthreading BUG exposed by Debian was confirmed by Intel in May. Specifically, when the loop body is less than 64 instructions in a segment loop, if the processor's AH, BH, CH, DH registers and their corresponding extension registers (such as RAX, EAX, AX), corresponding to AH) are used at the same time, the system will have unpredictable behavior. However, this occurs only when synchronous multithreading is enabled, that is, when a physical thread hosts two logical threads.

Although this time BUG is exposed by Linux's core operating system, virtually all operating systems will be affected, including our commonly used Windows. If your computer is equipped with an Intel Sky Lake or Kaby Lake architecture processor with hyperthreading support, to prevent unexpected data errors or loss, you should disable Intel Hyper Threading hyperthreading in your BIOS settings as soon as possible and wait for a future version of BIOS to fix this BUG.
