TeamTrees, YouTube's Biggest Fundraising Challenge: Raising $20 Million for Planting 20 Million Trees

By  Joe Horner 2019-10-28 227 0

At present, the hottest event in YouTube should be crowdfunding tree planting, right? More than 600 YouTuber are working together to launch one of the biggest fund-raising challenges in the history of the platform: raising $20 million by the end of the year to plant 20 million trees.

The challenge was launched by popular YouTube stunt philanthropist Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson, who is known for donating large amounts of money, including Mark Rober (8.7 million followers), Rhett&Link (4.5 million followers), Marshmello (40.2 million followers), iJustine (6.1 million followers),). Marques Brownlee (9.5 million followers), Slow Mo Guys (13 million followers), Ninja (22.4 million followers), Simone Giertz (1.9 million followers), Jacksepticeye (22.9 million followers), Smarter Every Day (7.3 million followers), of course, and PewDiePie (102 million followers), the channel with the largest number of Youtube fans.

The task is simple: these YouTuber will start using the project's theme tag # TeamTrees to post videos and ask viewers for donations. YouTube will bear all transaction costs donated on the platform. The goal is to show YouTube viewers as much fundraising videos as possible and capture people's home pages and recommendations.

The plan began in May 2019, when Donaldson fans on YouTube,Reddit and Twitter advised him to plant 20 million trees to celebrate reaching 20 million followers. Donaldson said he and some friends tried to see how many trees they could plant, and eventually they managed to plant only 300 trees a day.

"We want to prove that YouTube is not just for entertainment, we actually have a real impact and can make a real difference," Donaldson said in a video. "

So Donaldson partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation (Arbor Day Foundation), one of the largest non-profit conservation organizations, to launch the # TeamTrees challenge. The Arbor Day Foundation has begun the tree planting challenge, with a goal of planting 100 million trees by 2022.

Trees will begin planting in January 2020, with the goal of planting all 20 million trees "no later than December 2022". Although the foundation is also grown around the world, it is mainly grown in national parks around the United States.
