The German artist took to the street alone with 99 mobile phones: Taking to the street alone causes traffic jams on Google Map

Simon loaded 99 used smartphones into trolleys and pulled them into the street, creating virtual traffic jams on Google Maps. His behavior makes open streets in the real world appear as congestion on Google Maps, and navigation may keep cars off the road to avoid traffic jams.
On Simon's personal website, he listed the event in the "performance and installation" column, and the artist described the performance as a way to connect art with technology. In essence, it shows how people with smartphones replace and control the knowledge and information necessary to make up Google Maps.
Since it was uploaded on Saturday, the show has garnered nearly 1 million views on YouTube, and even Google has issued a statement on 9to5Google in response to the move.
Google said: "the traffic data in Google Maps is constantly refreshed, thanks to information from a variety of sources, including anonymous aggregate data from people who turn on location services, as well as contributions from the Google Maps community. We have introduced the ability to distinguish between cars and motorcycles in several countries, including India, Indonesia and Egypt, but we are not yet able to identify trolleys or horse-drawn carriages, and we are happy to see Google Maps being used so creatively, which will help us improve the program.
