The new Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride unveils CES 2020 to speed up the self-driving process
By Filmore Folks 2020-01-08 2358 12
Snapdragon Ride combines high-performance, energy-efficient hardware and industry-leading artificial intelligence technology to provide solutions for automakers through the combination of SoC, accelerators and self-driving software stacks. The scheme mainly supports three areas of autopilot system segmentation, namely, L1/L2 level, active safety, ADAS,L2+ level, "convenience" ADAS and L4/L5 level fully autopilot.
Based on different combinations of SoC and accelerators, the Snapdragon Ride platform can be matched according to the different needs of the autopilot market segment, achieving a leading level of heat dissipation efficiency. At the same time, the platform can also support passive or air-cooled heat dissipation design, which can save the liquid cooling system and greatly reduce the cost. Snapdragon Ride's range of SoC and accelerators are designed for functional safety systems at the ASIL-D level (Automotive Safety Integrity level D).
When it comes to the advantages of the Snapdragon Ride platform, it is roughly divided into the following parts. The platform supports secure OS and management programs, includes the security framework provided by automotive industry leaders, including adaptive automobile open system architecture, optimized and complete basic function library for computer vision, sensor signal processing and standard operation library, AI tools to improve model efficiency and optimize the running environment of heterogeneous computing units. It has a complete self-driving software stack for highway driving functions; a cost-effective positioning solution that supports Qualcomm vision-enhanced high-precision positioning; hardware and software in a loop test environment; and management tools that support intelligent data acquisition and automatic labeling.
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Nakul Duggal, senior vice president of product management, said that in the past few years, they have demonstrated the company's technical strength in the automotive field through the large-scale deployment of solutions., Qualcomm Technologies digital cockpit and Internet-connected automotive solutions can provide high performance and high intelligence in power-constrained environments. The upcoming first-generation Snapdragon Ride platform can be used as a highly scalable, open, fully customizable and highly optimized self-driving solution for power consumption, meeting a range of needs ranging from the new car evaluation specification (NCAP) to L2 + highway self-driving to robotic taxis. By combining the Snapdragon Ride self-driving software stack with the autonomous algorithms of automakers' first-tier suppliers, the aim is to accelerate the deployment of high-performance self-driving in the Volkswagen market.
So far, Snapdragon Ride has received support from many parties, including Arm, Xinsi Technology, BlackBerry QNX, Infineon Silicon Valley Innovation Center, Elektrobit and on Semiconductor. The platform is expected to be delivered to automakers and first-tier suppliers for pre-development in the first half of 2020. Qualcomm Technologies cars with Snapdragon Ride may go into production in 2023.
