DJI Mavic Air - the perfect combination of Mavic Pro and Spark
Mavic Air offers high-end configurations at a price lower than Mavic Pro. From 4K video to 32MP spherical panoramas and 21 minutes of battery life. More importantly, this drone has become more attractive due to improved object obstacle avoidance and gesture control systems .
In terms of size, Mavic Air may be similar to Spark, but this is basically all similar. The flying arm of the new drone can be folded, just like the Mavic Pro, bringing portability to a whole new level. Although it looks like a toy, it is rugged and well structured.
Mavic Air is the first to introduce USB-C interface content delivery DJI drones, but unfortunately, USB port can not give drone charge. To do this, you need to use a dedicated charging port. Of course, it also comes with a microSD card slot, but this time there is 8GB of onboard storage.
Another extraordinary and simple innovation of this new drone is the redesigned remote control, which can be neatly folded under the phone clip for excellent portability. However, the controller does not have a built-in screen like the Mavic Pro.
You might think that because of its small size and light weight, Mavic Air is difficult to maintain during flight, but DJI promises to be good at wind speeds of up to 35 km/h.
When using the controller, Mavic Air's transmission range is limited to 4 kilometers, twice the Spark (2 kilometers), but significantly lower than the Mavic Pro’s 7 kilometers.
Mavic Air's flight time can be up to 21 minutes. Like all DJI drones , it will automatically land when the power is seriously insufficient (less than 10%).
Advantage
● Incredible portability
● 4K video rate up to 100Mbps, 12MP high dynamic range image
● Nearly perfect automatic obstacle avoidance
● 8GB internal storage
Disadvantage
● Slightly unstable pan/tilt control
● Transmission range is not comparable to Mavic Pro
● Need multiple batteries to get a great flight experience
DJI Mavic Pro - the most cost-effective 4k camera portable drone
Mavic Pro looks very cute and easy to carry. The folded size is only 3.27 x 7.8 x 3.27 inches (83 x 198 x 83 mm), almost the same size as a bottle of water. Compared to the flagship Phantom 4 , it is half the size and weight of the latter, thanks to the new folding design.
For most devices, smaller sizes usually mean functional castration, but Mavic Pro does not have this problem. It is still equipped with all the features of a large drone , including front and bottom sensors, built-in obstacle avoidance, object tracking, auto-return and pointing flight.
Unlike the GoPro Karma, the Mavic Pro comes with a built-in camera, but because of the non-detachable head, you can't use it as a non-air adventurer. On the other hand, the camera can record 4K video at 30 FPS , or 96FPS with 1080P - the latter can also be streamed to Facebook , YouTube and Periscope at 30FPS .
Mavic Pro's camera is equipped with a 12.71 megapixel aerial camera with a FOV of 78.8° (equivalent focal length of 28mm) and an aperture of f/2.2. Compared to the Elf 4's FOV 94° (equivalent focal length of 20mm) aperture F2.8, The angle of view narrows but the aperture increases.
In addition, DJI Mavic Pro has a closest focusing distance of 0.5m, and also supports 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p video shooting at 96 frames per second. It has a three-axis stabilization pan/tilt and can be flipped 90 degrees to achieve vertical shooting. With an autofocus camera with a closest focusing distance of 0.5m
Mavic Pro's front obstacle avoidance controls make it impossible to fly to walls or trees - at least Keep it at a distance of 15 meters.
Mavic Pro is also the first DJI drone that can be controlled by gestures. This is a surprisingly powerful mode that can be noticed by a drone with a wave of hand . You can use your arm to make a Y shape to focus on you, or use your fingers to imitate a photo frame to complete a self-portrait in the air.
Overall, Mavic Pro seems to be our most accessible DJI drone. Its price is more suitable, compared with GoPro Karma , the use of its own camera is also more affordable. Between the improved smartphone app and gesture control, DJI has created a product that is very easy to control.
Advantage
● Automatic follow mode, powerful gesture control, automatic return
● Ultra-portable (can be easily placed in your pocket)
● OcuSync transmission system
Disadvantage
● Non-detachable camera and head
DJI Spark - the cheapest small drone
This is one of the most affordable drones produced in DJI (the more affordable one is Tello) and competes with other companies at the same price, such as Parrot Bebop 2 and Yuneec 4K Breeze .
The DJI Spark measures only 143 x 143 x 55 mm. It weighs only 300 g and can be easily placed in any backpack.
Unlike most other drones , the DJI Spark is equipped with pedals instead of stretched landing gear. This design may be designed to minimize size while making it comfortable to land on the palm of your hand. On the other hand, the small pedals are not suitable for landing on the rugged rock surface.
Impressively, all of sensors provide information to the Intel Movidius Myriad 2 vision processing unit, which is responsible for collision detection and gesture recognition beyond the main camera's image processing.
The good news is that Spark can be charged via the microUSB port. When the battery is exhausted, the portable mobile power supply allows you to enjoy your flight after a while.
In terms of recording function, the main camera is equipped with a 12-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor that can capture full HD video of 30P and 3968 x 2976 resolution images. In front of the digital sensor is a 25mm (35mm) f/2.6 lens that captures an effective field of view of 81.8°.
There is no doubt that DJI Spark is one of the most approachable drones in DJI, with intuitive gesture control, compact rack size and low sales price. By integrating with PalmControl, Quickshots and deeper smartphones, DJI has broken through multiple barriers to entry.
Advantage
● Can be controlled by gestures when the controller is not in use
● Portable and compact size
● Automatic Quickshot mode
Disadvantage
● Short battery life
● Unstable enough under strong winds
DJI Phantom 4 - the pro-grade camera drone
Drone technology is rapidly evolving, and Phantom 4 is the equivalent of an improved version of Phantom 3 Professional , with enhanced detailing, upgraded smart flight options, and a new, smarter obstacle avoidance system.
All of this makes the Phantom 4 an ideal choice for photographers who need a rugged, easy-to-use drone for outstanding aerial photography.
Return to origin (RTH) mode is automatically enabled when the drone takes off, but you can also set it manually. This is one of the most important features to watch out for, and if there are any errors in flight, it will help to prevent the drone from getting lost.
The Phantom 4 has several features to help beginner, including automatic take-off and landing, as well as beginner mode, which will limit the flight speed and distance of the drone .
The camera is basically identical to the older Phantom 3 Professional, with a 1/2.3-inch sensor and an f/2.8 lens that sees a 94° field of view. However, the parameters of the 4K camera bring some improvements in resolution and frame rate.
For 1080P video capture, the frame rate is increased from a maximum of 60 FPS to 120 FPS . The high-end resolution has also changed, with the existing 4096 x 2160 (4K) plus an additional 3840 x 2160 (4K) and a new 2704 x 1520 (2.7K) option.
The DJI Phantom 4 is the most complete aeronautical imaging solution available today, with an impressive 4K camera, as well as many very useful options and, most importantly, it delivers outstanding image quality. With automatic and manual adjustments, you can customize your video and image clips.
Advantage
● High quality stable lens
● Automatic follow and return to the starting point and other functions
● Very easy to operate
Disadvantage
● Frequent software updates
● The application may be a bit confusing
