The charger is very good at both LiIon and NiMH charging and keeps some impressive low cell temperature during charge (Like the VC2).
For charging at full current the charger is fairly demanding of the used usb power supply. It is possible to use weaker supplies, but the charging will be slower or sometimes much slower. With the current dial it is easy enough to see when that happens and it is time to get a better usb power supply. I would have liked slightly better performance with weak usb power supplies.

This type of charger is what I will call a family charger. Nearly anybody in the family can use it, just put the batteries into the charger and wait. Only caveat is that small batteries go into the two center slots or, for sets of four, in all four slots.

Final conclusion must be that it is a good charger.

Very well constructed. Comes with a little draw string slip case which is high quality. If you're planning for a grid down situation and have portable usb solar panels and power banks this is the way to go. They take a vast array of batteries from 18650 (protected and unprotected), AA, AAA, CR123 and others so if you're running a vape mod, flashlight, night vision device or battery powered lantern the VC4 will be your best friend.

One thing I don't see anyone point out is because they show you how much a battery is charging per Mah that also tells you the health of your battery. Especially important as batteries get older. Your battery may start off at 1,900mah but 5 years down the line it won't be holding that much charge. The VC4 will tell you exactly how much they can hold.

Suggestion

These VC4 chargers won't work directly connected to a usb port on a solar panel (i've tried 6 different ones). Current fluctuation of the panel prevents the VC4 from charging. Just charge a powerbank from the solar panel and charge the VC4 batteries from that.

This is very good charger. Can charge everything under the sun. It is really convenient that charger can be supplied with any 5v charger. I have lab power supply and was able to measure current consumption from the 5v during the charge of various combination of cells and their state from fully discharge to partially and can confirm that current draw from 5v source never exceeds 2A. That means that almost any wall charger of smartphones can be used with VC4 charger since smartphone chargers can supply 1.5A of current. But definitely external 5V source with output current of 3A is recommended for reasonable charging time.

Charger wisely allocates charging current between the cells depending on channels and battery charging state. Storage bag is also nice. For a word it worth every penny spent on it. Recommended product.

Suggestion

It's very difficult to pull out cells from the charger slots, especially if the cell has protection circuit and charging 4 cells (18650) at once. There is no space between cells to catch cells with fingers. You need some tool for this operation like flat narrow piece of plastic or wooden chopstick.

Been using this charger for last few weeks and its great, huge upgrade from Nitecore I4. Bay build is great and alot easier slide than I4(broke one of bay legs on it) Still dont have 2.1A power plug so max i can charge two batts in 1A slots is 0.8A Charge speed is awesome, my two vtc4's in sigelei 100W box mod cuts off at around 10-20% and at that vc4 charge them in around two and a half hours!!! its double the speed that my I4 was charging at. Overall its veru good charger and bought it cos these chargers have upgarded bays with fixed movement so you cant brake the metal legs bcos movement is smooth and steady! Much recomended to anyone whos looking an upgrade from I4!!!
