Let's start full and learn about the features of appearance and performance.

In the box

The device comes in a fairly standard-sized box, like other competitors. The front side of the Mecool KM1 displays a picture of the set-top box and control panel with the name of the model and brand.

Inside the box is the TV box itself, instructions, an HDMI cable, a power adapter for 5V and 2A, and the last one is a remote control.

The console has voice control support through the Google Assistant and some unusual buttons, such as YouTube, Prime Video and the Play Store. Thus, you can go to the most necessary applications with the click of a button.

The package bundle is pretty standard and you should not expect anything more, since there is everything for full use.

The first thing you should pay attention to is pretty high-quality plastic. Also, the device is well assembled and completely made of matte plastic.

The upper part is very similar in structure to leather with stitching, but in fact it is corrugated plastic. An excellent solution from the manufacturer Mecool, since the plastic itself is quite wear-resistant, and fingerprints and accidental scratches do not remain so strong on it.

The front end received a line with LED backlight, which indicates the status of the work.

On the right side there is a microSD card slot, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.

The rear end of the TV set-top box received a DC5V power port, a standard HDMI port, 100MB LAN and AV port. Nothing is present on the left side.

The lower part has ventilation holes for cooling, a sticker in the center and 4 anti-skid legs.

Thus, the build quality is similar to that of other TV set-top boxes, but the plastic used is much higher quality. Yes, the device does not look so bright, but the restrained and sophisticated appearance makes the Mecool KM1 clearly winning.

Performance and user interface

Before talking about performance, it is worth mentioning that the Mecool KM1 comes in three configurations. This is a 2/16 GB, 4/32 GB and 4/64 GB memory version. The last option is on the test, and out of the box 56 GB of free memory will be available.

Read speed of 148 Mb / s and write 101 Mb / s. Naturally, the memory speed is not the fastest, so you should not expect lightning fast work.
The TV set-top box received a powerful processor - Amlogic S905X3. It is based on four Arm Cortex-A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.91 GHz. The set-top box uses a graphics processor - Mali-G31 MP2, which copes with the tasks pretty well. If you want to play heavy games, then Mecool KM1 can do it.

Games such as Tanks, Asphalt 8 and others will start and work without any problems.

The device scored about 66 thousand points in AnTuTu. The result is pretty solid and much better than the X99 Max Plus.

A similar positive result was shown by the GeekBench 4 test, which scored 800 points in a single-core test and 2049 points in a multi-core test.

Let's see how the TV set-top box will cope with the main purpose - this is watching a video. Video file from a 4K flash drive with a bitrate of 160 Mb / s - the result was positive, the video started and played smoothly. Next, launch YouTube and check 4K resolution with 60 frames per second. The video was played cleanly and without any jerks.

Mecool KM1 set-top box is controlled on a clean Android TV with version 9.0. The first full system boot takes about 1 minute. The user interface of Android TV is completely different from the standard operating system. At the top of the main menu there is a voice control icon, settings icon and current time.

Further, the main screen is divided into various sections, the first is the application. Here you can select the most frequently used applications, as well as add or remove.

Below is the Google Play Movies or TV shows app. Still lower is Red Bull TV, as well as apps like the Google Play Store, Youtube, Facebook watch, Spotify, Prime Video, and the latest TuneIn Radio. Naturally, you can add or remove any applications from the main page of the screen.
The settings menu looks standard, as on most TV set-top boxes, and it is very similar to the settings menu in a smartphone running Android. Here you can set the sound, time and date, languages, keyboard and more. Another feature is the presence of an official built-in Chromecast.

However, installing MiraCast on this TV box does not work, only AirPin for iOS devices. Therefore, the screen can not be broadcast on Android smartphones. Although it sounds strange, given that the TV set-top box is built on the Android OS.

The new Mecool KM1 Collective TV set-top box has a nice appearance, where the top panel resembles leather with a stitching. Performance turned out to be an order of magnitude better than that of its competitors, for example X99 MAX Plus and Magicsee N5 Plus. Although the same processor is used, in real life the result turned out to be different.

You can watch 4k videos on YouTube or via a flash drive without any problems. If you want to play even modern games, then Mecool KM1 will not cause problems.

The disadvantages include a small number of USB ports and only 100MB LAN port.
