ASUS ZenFone 6 Hands-on Photos & Review

ASUS ZenFone 6 Hands-on Photos & Review

The ASUS ZenFone is an intriguing smartphone, especially with its 180 degrees revolving camera module and a battery larger than life.

If you have laid your eyes on OnePlus 7, you may have realized that it has the same screen design as Asus ZenFone 6, but Asus seems to grab more attention with its flipping camera design.

Asus' style was an innovative way of creating more screen space when other phone makers decided to go with the pop-up selfie. And you don't have to flip the camera with your hands. You only have to press a button, and the module will flip and face you.

What are the noticeable features of Asus ZenFone 6? Let's find out.

Unboxing the Baby

When you get the package, you won't even have the idea of the great stuff contained in that box. I wanted to feel the moment. It happens once after all. So, I got the box that was delivered to my doorstep and patiently, I placed it on the table, took a long breath, and began the task.

After opening the box, the first thing to meet my eyes was the phone. Underneath were the 18W charger head, a clear protective case, and a pair of white Asus earbuds. The earbuds provide me with a decent sound.

Design and Display

After unboxing, the first time you notice after turning on ZenFone 6 is the huge flawless screen. The display is 6.4-inch FHD-IPS display which takes 92 percent of the front panel. I noticed some small bezel, but the display remains cool.

Sad that they never went for OLED like the rivals, but the LCD is still sharp, colorful, and bright. All attention seems to be concentrated on the flip camera. The camera features dual sensors which are set side by side in the module.

The camera module is built with liquid metal which, according to Asus, it's four times harder than stainless steel. You are probably asking yourself what happens if the phone falls off your hands when the module is flipped.

I tried it myself. Sometimes you have to take the risk! The phone's motion sensor retracted the module to its primary position while it was inches from the ground. That's to avoid getting severe damage. Asus also mentioned that the module could withstand over 100,000 flips.

Running my eyes around, I noted that Asus ZenFone 6 is solid and outstanding. It has metal sides, rear fingerprint sensor, and curved Gorilla Glass 6. Mine is midnight black, but I heard there is also twilight silver colored one.

Going Deep in Camera Details

We have talked about the camera module. Now let's jump into camera details. A Sony IMX586 48MP camera sensor, and you know that's a big deal! That is found on the module alongside 13MP ultra-wide lens.

The 48MP main camera offers a resolution never experienced before, and it features Quad Bayer technology, which increases pixel levels sensitivity of light. The 13MP ultra-wide is best for your selfies and scenery. With the phone, there's new and unforgettable photography experience.

The cam has the HDR setting, which takes splendid photos in challenging lighting. The night mode also takes bright and clean low-light images with no blur.

I was fascinated with how Zenfone 6 captures clear videos. The flip camera focuses on the subject and follows them with zero camera shakes thanks to EIS technology. What could be a better way of capturing video memories?

The Battery

Asus didn't cut down on battery with ZenFone 6. The instead opted to go up, and behind the hood, they attached a 5,000mAh can of juice. I had spent a day with its predecessor last year, and one of the things I noticed about it was that it has a 3,3000mAh power pack. That's an improvement.

With that battery, you may forget your way to the charger. I once noted that the battery indicator was 75% when I was about to go to sleep. So, I let my kids play with the phone, and when I woke up in the morning, it was 65%. Honestly, I didn't charge the phone for the rest of the day and night.

So, you can stop worrying about running out of juice. One of the reasons to buy this phone apart from the camera is the battery. You may have to surf the Internet for 15 hours and 1 minute before it runs out of power.

What's Under the Hood?

Asus ZenFone 6 runs and operates smoothly, courtesy of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, and a 6GB or 8GB of RAM. You can also get one with either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of internal storage which is expandable.

Most of the 2019 phones feature the Snapdragon 855, which provides more power and smooth experience. You can, therefore, be assured that your ZenFone is up to date.

The phone also sports dual stereo speakers, one being on top and the other one below. They are all supported by dual smart amplifiers.

Zenfone 6 runs on ZenUI 6 which is based on Android 9. With ZenUI, you can get more Android experience like double tapping to wake up, native dark mode, and smart speakers. Moreover, the ZenFone6 is compatible with Android Q, and we are anxiously waiting for the update.

Conclusion

The short time I've used Asus Zenfone 6 I've realized that it's a unique phone and the camera module is something with which I wasn't familiar. It also has a humongous display and a bigger battery to keep it running for longer. It's an exciting phone to use.

At only $499, you can enjoy all the benefits of Asus ZenFone 6.
