Experience OnePlus 7 Smartphone - How Do I Feel Like it?

OnePlus 7 comes with a 6.41-inch display and has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340. The mobile runs on Android Pie V9.0 and is powered by Octa-core processor.

The design of OnePlus 7 is hardly changed from its predecessor and still has a teardrop notch display. Launched alongside OnePlus 7 Pro, the smartphone device is an extended version of OnePlus 6T, but with some added functionality.

I had some time with the device and as a result of which, I decided to put my initial thoughts on about it, so that some of you who are looking to buy the phone, can have a better idea whether or not the device is for you.

Let us get into more details and discuss various aspects of OnePlus 7 in terms of display, performance, battery, and camera.

1. Design and Display

OnePlus 7 does not have the same design as that of OnePlus 7 Pro. It still has the teardrop notch, which you might have seen in the previous version of OnePlus phone - the OnePlus 6T. And to be honest, it was a bit old fashioned for OnePlus to keep such a design.

However, it still looks attractive. The device has a built-in fingerprint scanner that is also there in the OnePlus 6T and turns out to be working well. However, the fingerprint scanner of OnePlus 7 is larger in size as compared to OnePlus 6T, which is good. I really liked that they increased the size of it.

Just like the previous variants of OnePlus, the device comes with a silence slider on the side of the phone. Another thing that I was really looking in OnePlus 7 was the stereo speakers.

And OnePlus did not disappoint me in that aspect. The sound of OnePlus 7 is great and offers better sound quality than most of its predecessor phones.

Being said that, the company has not given an IP rating to the phone, so be careful when you take your new device near the pool or in the shower.

2. Performance

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. The processor's performance is good and there was no lag in the device when I tested it by playing games like PUBG and Fortnite on it.

The face unlock feature is good and there is no delay in unlocking the phone. It seems to me that it only takes 0.1 seconds to unlock.

Some of the new features that I noticed in the device as compared to the OnePlus 6T are the so-called Zen mode and screen recording app. Once you go into the Zen mode, you can longer text, watch videos or check your social media accounts for 20 minutes.

If you find yourself always being active on your mobile device, this feature can help you reduce the time, which is an important feature that can improve your performance. And yes, you can still make and receive calls when you are in the Zen mode.

OnePlus 7 device comes with a screen recording app that is important for video bloggers and others who want to record videos for their followers and/or for any other important purpose.

There are stereo speakers that are something that I was really looking for in the OnePlus 7. The device has an improved sound quality because of the stereo speakers, which wasn’t available with the OnePlus 6T device.

3. Battery

The 3700mAh battery capacity is the same as that of OnePlus 6T, no improvement at all from the previous device. I personally feel that the company should have provided a little more power in OnePlus 7.

Like I previously said, the battery of OnePlus 7 is the same as that of OnePlus 6T. As far as the battery life goes, I am able to use the device for the entire day with a single charge. It comes with Type C faster-charging capabilities.

I used the device for an entire day while watching a few hours of videos on YouTube, playing games like PUBG and doing the occasional scrolling on social media and news all throughout the day.

Overall, battery performance is good, but do not expect any improvement if you have been using OnePlus 6T. It is almost the same as that of its predecessor.

I personally feel that the company put all of their effort and attention on the OnePlus 7 Pro and forget that they are also offering OnePlus 7. For instance,

- The OnePlus 7 Pro has a 4000 mAh battery, in comparison to the 3700 mAh battery for OnePlus 7.

- The OnePlus 7 Pro has a bezel-less edge to edge display, whereas OnePlus 7 has the same teardrop display as that of OnePlus 6T.

You’ll find that there is not much improvement in the device after you compare OnePlus 7 with last year's OnePlus 6T. Even on full brightness, the battery performance is good than most of the other smartphones, currently available in the market at present.

I was able to use the device for an entire day while having a few hours of screen time, occasional scrolling through apps and news and playing games like PUBG.

4. Camera

Speaking about the camera on the new OnePlus 7 device, there is a considerable improvement based on its predecessor, which is something I was really looking forward to.

The camera is something that I use mostly on my smartphone device. I like taking pictures and videos and whenever I use OnePlus 7, the picture quality is fascinating. On the rear, there is the top-notch 48 MP camera that has an aperture of f/1.7 with a pixel size of 1.6-micron. The secondary camera is of 5 MP having an aperture of f/2.4 and 1.12-micron pixel size.

The rear camera has a phase detection autofocus that allows you to get crisp and beautiful images. In my initial testing of the camera, I was fairly impressed with the rear camera.

It even performed well in low light setting, allowing me to take some quality images. The pictures were crisp and clear, providing accurate colors and contrast in the low light setting.

Speaking about the front camera, it is a 16 MP for taking beautiful selfies. It has an aperture of f/2.0 and 1.0-micron pixel size. Again, there is no change when it comes to the front camera and is the same as that of the OnePlus 6T device.

Being said that, you can have some good quality photos with the camera. It works considerably well.

Final Thoughts

OnePlus 7 is a solid and affordable variant of OnePlus. Though the changes are not too much in the device as compared to OnePlus 6T, it is still a premium phone and one of the best in quality and performance.

As compared to the dual camera of OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 7 has a triple camera setup. The battery of 3700 mAh, however, remains the same on both the devices, along with the teardrop display.

If you are looking to get a premium phone in the budget, OnePlus 7 is a good choice with a powerful specification and excellent camera. Even the battery performance is good and will last for an entire day quite easily, even if you are a heavy smartphone user.
