Black Shark 2 Pro Gaming Phone: The Lowest Touch Latency & Snapdragon 855 Plus

Black Shark 2 Pro Gaming Phone: The Lowest Touch Latency & Snapdragon 855 Plus

Black Shark 2 Pro is the second gaming phone released in the latter half of the year, and also the second mobile phone released by Black Shark this year.

It was believed that Black Shark would release two mobile phones powered by the same chipset, putting it in a dilemma. Luckily, Black Shark 2 Pro took advantage of the most up-to-date Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus, becoming the second to use Snapdragon 855 Plus on the market.

Complete design and more lights

The distinction between Black Shark 2 and 2 Pro is not the outline on the back, but the redesigned center.

Both the style and the texture look better than Black Shark 2, which implies fast speed. The style differs a lot from other gaming phones.

The iconic "S" logo is smaller than that of Black Shark 2, with a narrower waist. Additionally, the upper and lower parts of Black Shark 2 are rather large. In comparison, Black Shark 2 Pro comes with another two small lights. They harmonize with the new design, pleasing to the eye.

Honestly, as the lines, ups and downs, and the central part similar to a deck come into view, I recall the futuristic racing cars and spaceships.

In contrast, the front looks more conventional, almost the same as Black Shark 2. The regular full-screen display reserves ample area on both sides for the hands to ensure the gaming experience.

The screen of Black Shark 2 Pro is the same as that of Black Shark 2, which is 6.39 inches, with 2340x1080 resolution. The new Samsung AMOLED screen features 60Hz refresh rate. Its parameters are quite familiar to everyone.

Black Shark 2 Pro also uses the in-display fingerprint sensor. Its unlocking speed is comparable with the latest Xiaomi flagship.

Snapdragon 855 Plus is powerful, but the application and experience are critical

There is a significant improvement in performance.

Compared with the Snapdragon 855, Qualcomm has made two significant improvements in Snapdragon 855 Plus:

1. The core frequency has been upgraded to 2.96GHz, while the core frequency of Snapdragon 855 is 2.84GHz;

2. Adreno 640 GPU has been optimized for gaming and entertainment, with 15% uplift in performance.

The improvement in GPU mainly results from the uplift in frequency, from 585MHz to 672MHz. The increase rate is higher than that of the CPU.

Black Shark 2 Pro has a much shorter touch latency than Black Shark 2.

According to the official data, the average latency is reduced to 34.7ms, lower than 40ms, which means a significant breakthrough. If Black Shark 2 can maintain the average latency, you can move the gun at will in FPS games.

Even though I am an ordinary gamer, I can still feel the 200ms latency of Bluetooth headset. Is it 10ms shorter than the previous generation? Honestly, I don't know.

As for the heat dissipation, it's fine to set the image quality as "Ultra HD" and the frame rate as "Super High," because the phone won't be too hot to play.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning the distinctive pressure-sensitive screen of Black Shark.

As Apple has given up 3D Touch, now, Black Shark is the only manufacturer on the market that provides a pressure-sensitive function. Unlike 3D Touch, which requires compatibility, Black Shark uses mapping to detect pressure and therefore, it supports more games.

Indeed, apart from Black Shark 2 Pro, you can also find this feature in Black Shark 2.

Does the function well? Yes, but I think it takes a while to get familiar with it.

I've tried it and found it responsive. However, if you're unfamiliar with it, misoperation is a matter of course.

The image sensor is upgraded; battery capacity remains the same

Black Shark 2 Pro uses a 48MP image sensor. However, it is not the Samsung GM1 used in Black Shark 2, but the more popular Sony IMX 586.

Theoretically, the image quality will be better. Let's have a look at some samples.

As we can see from the samples, even though Black Shark 2 Pro is a gaming phone, its camera performance is as good as the mainstream smartphones.

To date, phones with a battery capacity of 4000mAh are few and far between. Among them, you can find Black Shark 2 Pro.

Since the screen size is the same, Black Shark 2 Pro is as big as Black Shark 2. Thus, no improvement in battery capacity makes sense.

4000mAh is not too small for a phone in this size. Will Black Shark put a bigger battery in a larger phone? I don't know yet, but you will be satisfied with 4000 mAh and about 6 hours screen-on time.

The quick charge remains the same, i.e., 27W. Although the power is the same as that of Xiaomi Mi 9, the compatibility of Black Shark stands out, especially the compatibility with PD 3.0 adapters.

What Black Shark still needs to consider & improve?

Users criticize Black Shark 2 Pro for many reasons, such as the phone doesn't have NFC, 3.5mm headphone jack, or else.

However, on the whole, you will never be disappointed with the hardware of the Black Shark 2 Pro.

If you ask, is Black Shark 2 Pro better?

Yes, it is.
